What type of chairs?

Almost finished with our dining room makeover (refinished floors, new paint, new lighting) but I need input on the type of chairs that will fit with the space. Keep in mind we have a toddler (no fabric chairs) and love a more relaxed vibe.

Katinparadise I really like those options thank you. The table seems to be large in that photo but it is well proportioned for the room. There is adequate space all around, and it may be the perspective the photo was taken from: looking from the living room through the French door opening to dining room.

Will you be adding a rug and art? These can effect the choices.

The door is far too prominent. Paint it the wall colour. Sunbrella and several other companies make practically indestructible fabrics that are perfectly appropriate indoors. Padded seats are more comfortable. It's never too early to teach kids to respect what you have. Even adults can have accidents.

Not certain what is in the opposite direction.... you've probably tried this, but will the table work better placed in the opposite?

Chairs... some very pretty dense woven X back chairs would look great with your lighting and table:

available in multiple colors... however picked the two that would look best with your table and lighting... sold at Wayfair.com child friendly and comfortable.

If you like a different chair for your toddler(s), I suggest the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair. Pricy, but I see them on local parent swaps for $100 depending on condition. And you can resell in a couple years. Good luck!

We have no intention of putting down a rug. Some minimalist wall art, yes. Porter, I like the clear type of chairs, however, they will be a tough sell to my husband. The first suggestion is too conservative for us. Thank you.

Ok, understand the tough sell.... the X back chairs lean very country French IMO... far from conservative, but respect your opinion. Maybe you are seeking something more modern if you personally like the clear chairs. Perhaps you'd like the metal chairs with wood seats or without.

Kids won't be toddlers forever, so consider using some vinyl plastic on the kid's chair and select the chair that is comfortable and looks right in the room.

Is it just me or does the table look too large for the room? It also does not seem to fit the style of modern clear chairs?

A nice rug, complimenting the trim would be great! Then chairs with fabric backs (wooden legs) and seats that complement the walls would look amazing. Or vice versa!

Ended getting white chairs like the ones suggested above. The end chairs are just slightly different.
