another thought, hand held comes in very handy if you or guest only want to wash your hair, or become disabled due to broken leg....or there are young children. There is more control with hand held. Ask yourself do you want options or the fun of standing in a rain shower?

Good points made , we had one in our previous home and as the other hav said it does come very handy ,also if you have children you canadjust the height of the shower . I know that this is totally a different suggestion but we also had a spout just to wash feet ,no need of the shower head for that one just position the feet under the faucet and wash them without getting wet all over.

What would be best for resale?...shower head and hand held or just hand held?

Rain shower head AND hand held (for cleaning if nothing else) ......rain head is a huge draw for people at resale.

Good. If you make those decisions when building, it is a lot cheaper & less hassle than trying to add on after. My adorable husband was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's Disease. When we moved to new house, we ensured we put in both when did bathroom reno, so as his Pd advanced he would be able to sit down & use hand held. We also put in grab bars in tub & beside toilet.

We recently redid our shower and added a handheld sprayer on a pole and a traditional shower head. There is a diverter that transfers the water between the handheld and traditional shower head or allows us to use both at the same time. Basically you can turn off the shower without changing the temperature setting.

I love the new set up. My husband can shower both our toddler and kindergartner at the same time which saves water and time. I love being able to sit on the shower bench and easily shave my legs using the handheld sprayer. When I'm washing my hair I can turn off the water while applying the shampoo and know that the water will be the same temperature when I turn it back on. I used to keep the water running so that I wouldn't get blasted with cold water. I've found that because of the dual handle I use much less water.
