re the lights: i am getting bored with my pendants- and am considering a whopping crystal chandelier- your formal cabinet doors and marble counter would be very compatible with a bedazzling element- plus i love the rainbows the crystals would make (with the sun coming in from the window-)around the room:)

Is the light for over the island? How many fixtures do you have? I like the idea of a chandelier if one. Otherwise for pedants I am a big fan of the restoration hardware benson pendant. Or you could do two mini chandeliers.

is there visual contact bt the dining room and the kitchen? the kitchen is a personality continuation of the dining room, i wonder how important it is that when sitting in the dining room do you see the kitchen where the chandelier would be? if so, or even if not, then a similar shape and color would look lovely, without being too matchy-matchy- in my opinion. or maybe the reverse: clear curved glass branches and the crystals hanging down could be black. what do you think?

If your kitchen is open to the dining room then the kitchen chandelier should compliment the one in the dining room but need not match. Old iron, pewter or antique steel would compliment the stainless appliances, Hardware and old world styling of the kitchen. For the bar stools I recommend stools in a dark finish, not to ornate. you don't want them to compete with the decorative corbels on the island. A dark finish will compliment the darker tones of the stone counters and the light colored cabinets.

re the stools- i would echo the classic tile shape- of diamond/diagonal on the back of the stool chairs- do you like metal stools or wooden ones? maybe too much light wood if the stools would be light too, and a dark color would contrast to the chairs in the dining room and the cabinets in kitchen, will try to include photo
