drop-in tub or alcove tub for a 76 inch space

In my master bathroom which is small, I want to keep a bath-tub shower combo with shower doors. You can see in the picture there is a 76 inch length which has a drop-in jacuzzi tub and 16 inches of sitting or extra space.

My question is should I buy a new drop-in tub and tile the outside, or should I get the alcove tub (exposed white), but then what do I do with the 16 inch space on the outside? Do i tile just the outside of that 16 inch space or tile the whole thing?

The problem with the drop-in tubs are they are over 18 inches high, and I'd prefer a shorter tub because mostly we're going to use the shower. I want the tub for my kids and want to keep a tub in there.

Gut that area, add/create a niche for towel or other storage, 12 inches wide, and use a 60 inch slide in alcove tub with a 14 inch height if you are bathing children and mostly showering otherwise. Tile just the three walls within the 60" tub surround. I'm sure you could use every bit of storage.

60" tubs SUCK. Those end-of-tub linen closets are aggravating and a waste of space. Get a bigger tub!!!!

You need a flange around all three sides with a shower. What the previous owner seems to have done is made a bench just over the end of the back of the tub's flange. You can do that again but not in hideous tile. With a 72" tub, you would have a toiletries shelf instead of the big weird seat thing too far from the shower head to use.
