If it were me I would drywall them over. You have light with the 2 large windows from the left. I would flank the fireplace with built in bookshelves. If you want more light, replace them with larger windows to the floor.

Will there be furnishings under the windows?

In order to give you a better suggestion would you mind telling us what is bothering you about them not being covered?

I would have built in's made to go under the windows up to the bottom of the frame and fuggettabout em.

I have a window like that in my dining area, adjacent to a large bank of windows and a sliding door. My designer treated the other windows, but opted to do nothing with the one in in the dining area, aside from the roller shade I already had in place -- which, on thinking of it, I never close anyhow!

Thank you for all the suggestions. I really appreciate it. There wouldn't be any furniture below the windows. Our house is in a corner lot and the street is uphill that when you're at the top of that hill people can see the inside of the house but I really love the light coming in. I'm just worried that it will look odd that its not covered like the rest of the windows.

The most I would do is an inside mount roller shade or roman blind.

Hang a relaxed roman just below the crown molding (oops, tray ceiling fooled me - near ceiling line), so when it is open it looks like a valance but you can close them at night or in the winter for thermal - something in white linen doesn't have to be lined. That will give you the finished look you want.

If privacy is an issue, Venetian blinds might help. You can rotate the blinds so that you get indirect light but people can't see in.

Soft roman shade is what I saw when I looked at your picture....I agree with libradesigneye. Take a look at the examples below to give you some idea of the softness. These could be fabricated in the same material as your other curtains will be, they would speak to the your other curtains (rather than creating a void of space) and you would never have to close them if you didn't want to:

Depending on the furnishings in the room and whether this style works with that, you might want to try a decorative mesh ( like for old radiator covers ) in the windows instead. It will obscure some of the open view but still let the light in. Another thought might be to use a window film, again, blocking the view but not the light.

Leave the transoms. If you need to dress them up put in the snap in grilles.
