The wall space swallows them. Is there another location you would consider?

Can you relocate them? They’re “ floating “ on the wall.

Also, is the portrait on the right larger? If so, get both remitted and reframed to the same size, same frame. Then, hang them lower and closer together.

I agree with lowering them or maybe try adding more pics to make it a photo gallery.

IMO they are hung too high for sure and I never undersatnd portraits of myself hung anywhere but maybe a bedroom. I think family pictures belong in hallways leading to bedrooms or maybe a few small ones sitting on a piano but not as art work in LR.

Good points made above. But additionally, my feeling is that if one hangs portraits as a pair-- and there is a long tradition of doing so -- they should be in similar format. Both head and shoulder, or both three-quarter, or both full-length. That and of course be somewhat similar in style, which I think yours are. But I find the matching of three-quarter and full-length to be awkward.

Oh yes, and frames and matts should be identical.

A few suggestions, consider having the portraits transferred to a canvas...or add some lights above them. Separate the portraits to make them more of individuals and/or add some smaller pictures with them. Best of Luck!

To make them look as if they go together, they should have the exact same mattes and frames. They look a bit small for the wall, but having them re-matted with larger mattes and frames should do the trick.

I know you just had them redone but I think the frames are to small, not only for the picture but for sure for the space where you have them now. I also agree they need to be lowered. I personally have never cared for personal pictures in the living room, however it is your space and I think it is nice you want to highlight them. Someone suggested maybe putting them in your master, might you have space there where the wall would not be quite as big, just a thought. One last thought, again I know you just had them redone but maybe a slightly darker frame would give more substance. Good luck and you have a beautiful room.

The white matt on the woman’s portraits is too harsh. The frames themselves seem to have a differing tone. Both pieces are hung too high.

I'm not a designer, but I think the two portraits would look fine as they are framed/matted now if you could find more art and put together a gallery wall. Even if you follow the suggestions to re-frame/re-mat identically and move them down a few inches, I still wouldn't care for the overall look. Some folks say you shouldn't have family portraits in your public rooms. I say it's your house and you should do what pleases you. But I do think that if you're going to proceed in that direction, you should think about a gallery wall.

If you do decide to make a gallery wall, your frames should be of compatible color, size, and style. But they don't all have to be the same. In my own house, all of the frames are black, I believe, but I think that a gold frame here and there wouldn't necessarily be out of place. With gallery walls, you have to move stuff around five million times to get a look you like. You also have to commit to making lots and lots of holes in the wall.

Personally, I think your frames are fine. I do think that they are not big enough for the space. If you have more photos or some other type of framed art I would put 2 pieces of art above the portraits. I have photos of my family in different, but similar frames and I think they look fine. And omg just cringe now, I just counted and have 13 photos of my family in my living room and am about to put 3 huge paintings of the family in my dining room.
