What do you want from the fireplace? Heat, just looks what is your style , honestly if going to mount T.V on the wallforget the fireplace except if it is just for looks.

More for the looks and also its a Modern Prairie inspired Architecture which usually has a fireplace in the middle of the house. Thanks for the input.

forhome0122 We are considering electric fireplaces now, also, for a wall with a tv. Interested in knowing if you ever got one, and your impression of how it looks. Lots of choices, we would prefer gas but all that goes with keeping the heat away from the TV limits our design and budget.

Lynda I am also looking ,but electric fireplaces have the option of delivering heat. The heat either comes out the face of the top of the unit. Some FP designs can be recessed and some can only be surface mounted.

Either way there are limits as to how close the TV can be mounted to the FP or if the FP requires some sort of deflection. Some distance as small as 12" but some inserts require 24".

Linlac, we have been looking at Dimplex also. Do you by any chance have either the Opti-V or Opti-Myst? The technology is intriguing and at first glance seems like either might be a good option. But I am wondering if, after a while the novelty of this new “toy” might wear off and my husband the firebug might wish we had figured out a way to work “the real thing” into our design.

No, I have an older version. Mine is very realistic so yours will be much better. It has a remote that controls the speed of the flickering flame. I installed it into an existing brick fireplace so I don’t have the linear version. I opted for mirrored glass instead of logs.
