Old Cottage Kitchen

Hello, I do not have a floor plan but can be descriptive here as well as provide photos. We will remove the cabinets, appliances, and island from the kitchen. We are going to seal off the door on the back wall and only leave the window on the left wall which is currently above the sink.

Do you have a layout suggestion that includes, sink, electric stove, refrigerator with new counter height cabinets, wall (Over counter height cabinets) cabinets and a small pantry?

The kitchen dimensions are as follows:

Wall by kitchen window to outside door 9.5 FEET, Back wall where existing stove and fridge are is 9FT, - the other wall which is shared with the bathroom is 5 ft but we could extend the current wall?

Thank you for your ideas and suggestions. Much appreciated.

Just wanted to bump this up...

Now, is that a window behind the fridge? Will the appliances move? Sink? What's behind the green thing with the paper towel holder on it?

WIll you be adding another island or totally eliminating in favor of a table and chairs?

Sure, I can give that info.

Behind the fridge is a door we will close off to create a continuous wall.

The cabinet behind the paper towel holder currently houses our hot water heater - relocating to a different part of the cottage.

I am not committed to where the appliances are but do like the sink in front of the kitchen window.

I would prefer an island for convenience but if a galley makes the most sense I could use a kitchen cart - really looking for ideas as I want to do the best on behalf of the space and to make sure I've considered most options.

IMO without a detailed floor plan there is no way of giving constructive ideas. When I say detailed I mean where is the plumbing, how high from the floor are the windows ,what is in the green bump out.?

Patricia, I can appreciate that and like you wish I had one however I do not have one so I am doing my best to provide details.

The window is 5 feet off the ground and the existing plumbing is directly under the sink. We are gutting the space and adding all new cabinets, appliances, island if it works out etc. We are not keeping any existing materials except the wall, plumbing under the current sink, window above the sink approximately 5 feet. I hope this is helpful.

We essentially have 9.5 feet length (wall with the window) and 9ft width wall with current door we will close off.

    Hire a Kitchen Designer.

Try the Ikea kitchen planner. It's very user friendly. ( would try it for you, but I'm on a Chromebook and it's not supported)

pennydesign, I used your suggestion to use the IKEA kitchen planner and it worked out great. When the kitchen is complete I will submit a photo here. Thanks for the helpful idea.

I am posting the after pictures of the cottage kitchen. I just love it and I so happy with the additional light we get from the bow window above the apron sink and the added window on the exterior kitchen wall. The cabinets are Ikea and they are LOVELY and just what we wanted. We completely renovated the entire cottage and added a loft above the bedrooms. So blessed to own this lil charming cottage.

My gosh you did a WONDERFUL job...it fits the cottage perfectly!

    I just love it...

If you have trouble with the fridge door clearance (because it's against the wall) and pulling any drawers out, you can usually switch the hinge side. Of course it might not bother you at all...

I like the ikea cabinets...I like the warranty and the ease of installation and the fact that if a box gets damaged, you can just replace it.

    Thanks for sharing!

ETA I just noticed....Did you find that wonderful wood underneath the ceiling??
