If you cook alot tile "sucks " to clean. In my home I actually covered over a corian backsplashc(white marble} and put a mirror cut to fit behind the stove only--it's a dream to clean! and it opens the space up. then you could add glass tile in a color on the remainig backsplash.

For a color I would consider using a color from your punter top. I am seeing a lot of sand/amber tones in in island top and pendant lights. Using 13" porcelain tiles turned on the diagonal looks nice with minimal,matching grout lines.

How about a focal glass art mural over the stove. We have created several "beach theme" fused glass art works for our clients. Here are some examples and many more in our website. Use a cream or white background on the tile--if ceramic cream, white or linen. Try to go with something handmade as this will give a more homey feel. It you prefer stone look at crema marfil or bottacino background (honed, polished or tumbled). Cosa Marble has beautiful mosaic borders--I'm thinking of one with blue Celeste, azulejo macauba and a little gold to go with the granite of the counters. You might want to consider a lighter brighter carpet to offset the red sofas--and a nice photo or mirror over the mantle that brings in all your colors. Deirdre

I do like the second image a lot just not a huge fan of the art murals rather have a pattern but these are some great ideas keep them coming !!

I like the neutrality of this to enhance your granite, yet the diagonal placement adds elegance and texture.

Chris is the second photo you displayed of the other side of the kitchen remaining as it is? If this is an open floor plan and that room with all the red remains, I think trying to go with a beach feel will clash. Am I missing something?

I would add textural interest, the pop of color could be added to the stove frieze in hand-painting.

I would have a stamped stainless piece behind the stove ( stamped into a picture of your choice.. maybe a beach scene), bring in a neutral field tile and accent with seaglass colored glass tiles and stainless tiles.

I would do something very light simple and neutral (color from counter) so that later on if you change your decor to a beach feel you can use accents to add that to the kitchen. Right now nothing is really saying beach and I think trying to do a "beachy" tile with the counter would not work.

How about a seafoam green or celadon beveled subway tile for the backsplash? Maybe a solid stainless panel behind the stove and then add the tile on either side of that. Solid stainless panel is easy to clean. I don't see red in a beach house for that beachy feel unless you are doing a nantucket feel with navy and red, etc. I would get bored with a mural or mosaic, personally, so I'd keep it simple and clean feeling.

I guess everyone is right I think I am looking for something more contemporary with pop of color does this make it easier for everyone ?

How about something like this in your colors then surrounded by subway tiles? It is 100% glass and very cleanable.

This reminds me of your kitchen except for the colors. If you did a neutral backsplash and a mosaic niche area it would look comparable. I am sorry I don't know how to post more than one pic on a post.

I think as stated above the bead board would look great and if you use Azek it will be easy to keep clean
