I love our one story mid century modern ranch house that my husband and I bought in November. But, I feel it could use some curb appeal. When we first saw it the overgrown shrubs (rhododendron and andromeda) were higher than the roof and completely covered the windows. I cut them back about a 1/3 in Fall but they still look overgrown to me. I like having mature, flowering shrubs so would like to save them. Should I move them closer to the road to open up space around the house and plant smaller shrubs? I'd like to see the windows and architectural lines better. My neighbor's house is similar to ours but he has large Rhodies that were planted closer to the road to create privacy. as a result, you can see the lines of his house. Our two front doors is bothersome, too. The house originally had a car port, which has been turned into a garage at some point.The gray door goes into the garage and is the door that my family uses most.I painted the main front door orange for some impact so guests would know which door to go to. I was thinking of making some sort of privacy screen or planter to hide the gray garage entrance and to creat some visual interest. I'm curious for some input on this. My expertise is more to interior design decisions; painting and mosaic work.
