LOL Thank you chispa! Too narrow for a credenza and tv in front of the bed, which I couldnt do. With a 7 foot long bed, and a nelson credenza at 18” wide, there would be a 3.5 foot walkway. Is that too narrow?

I personally like my current bedroom size just fine. I thought the new master was 13’ for some reason. The ac ducts are in the roof and the framing is up. If I bumped the wall in, then to hang clothes, I’d have to move the closet door entry over, but then it wouldnt line up with the exit door by the bathtub. I am hopeful people will say it’s not too bad!

It looks good to me as planned, and your current room is also very nice. I think 3.5 ft will be enough room between the bed and the credenza. The hallway in my house is only 3 ft wide.

Your closet is huge. You probably won’t need much furniture for storage in the bedroom. Minimal furniture and a sitting area would be my preference anyway.

I think it’s a great size.

Thank you!!!! I feel much better! IloveRed - that is what I was thinking also! All the clothes will be in closet with a seating area in the bedroom. I wanted no dressers. But later I considered a credenza...and then the nice architect came along....

I think the size and shape of the new bedroom is perfect for your style and for your home.

As for your architect friend...I find that people with expertise in a subject, tend to look for faults in the work done by others in that subject. Had your friend been a landscaper, for example, he might have said you put a plant in the wrong place. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc often point out what they see as a negative when they are in a building, home or public space. In this forum, some posters look at a lovely finished room and make a negative comment about color, curtains, rugs, even though the OP has completed the project. I have experience creating systems to make things work better, so I see the problems that bad systems create, and I sometimes grumble about it.

I think friends who are more self aware keep their critiques of our homes, our hair styles, and our clothing choices to themselves.

Agree with the ability to have simplicity in the bedroom where the bed it - no clutter. Perhaps a TV on the wall if you watch TV in bed and then a sitting area near the sliders / taking in the view. Clothes in the huge closet. Bedroom - peaceful with only a few pieces of furniture. Zen.

The proportions of the bedroom are odd: 1:2.

But if you can furnish it the way you want and are comfortable in it, then it will be fine. If not, fix it while construction is underway.

You will be totally fine. It's long enough that you don't have to try to cram some huge dresser right at the foot of the bed. :) I personally prefer a bedroom be a bit more cozy, and I think you will be fine.

It's fine. And appropriate to the style. If you want, though, perhaps you could niche the TV, and you wouldn't have to move the bathroom door.

In my first house, my master was only 11' wide, and although it was narrow, it wasn't awful -- as long as I didn't have the ironing board "up" at the foot of the bed. No possibility of a dresser or even a chest at the foot, but enough room to walk past.

I think it may "feel" more narrow than it actually is because the room is fairly wide. It may feel a bit out of proportion, but you'll have no problem walking past the foot of the bed.

Put an Eames lounge chair in the corner and everything will be fine.

Thank you all! I feel so much better. It has been bothering me for a couple weeks and I decided to let it go. Then when my friend mentioned it (who is not the architect for the project-met him after I started the planning), I became stressed about it again. I hope never to have to sell the house, but resale is always on the back of my mind...

I guess I didnt think it through, but we are limited on land for the addition as there is an 8-10 foot drop off 4 feet from the exterior wall. So I couldn’t make the bedroom wider. And the closet door and bathroom exterior door are lined up and to widen the bedroom would throw it off. Plus I was trying to stay true to the original architect’s vision, and this room is the same size as the master he designed on the other side of the house. Lastly, I didnt want clutter. As Mark said, an Eames chair or womb chair, some walnut built in’s at one side of the bedroom, just simple and no clutter. I didnt want clothes in the bedroom. I wanted it a place for sleeping.

the only other thing I could do is indent the wall, but I dont think this stays true to the house...

If you wanted a TV at the foot of the bed, you can hang it on the wall with a narrow decorative console below. The TV components could go behind, in the closet with IR sensor to make the remotes work. The indent would work too. If you aren't putting a TV there then I wouldn't worry. Future buyers would have the option to make those changes if they want.

Yes, it IS very narrow. You certainly cannot have a bench or anything at the foot of the bed. But if it's a done deal, you'll figure out how to make it work.

Creating a recess would take away some of the flexibility of the room making it harder to furnish. You have plenty of room at the foot of the bed for a dresser on the opposite wall, or a bench not both. The room is fine as is.

You are already used to a long and narrow bedroom, and I think your new one will be just fine! When you're home, you'll mostly be spending time by the pool or in the rest of the house. I like the idea of a small sitting area (with a good reading lamp) and I think your home is going to rock! (yes, intended)

Looks fine to me. A matter of a few inches should not be a problem.
