I sure wouldn't move the ones already planted. That could easily damage them permanently or at the very least set them back by weeks. So either get more plants as Dan suggested or just use the new space next year.

I've grown tomatoes in 6h of sun and they've done really well until fungus hit them, which I've wondered if the sunlight largely being afternoon sun has contributed to that. No morning sun=morning dew not drying all morning. Other than that, the plants have always been fairly healthy though.

I would do as suggested above. You may be surprised at the production you get out of the 6h bed. It would be an interesting experiment. I'm not sure how warm it gets in the San Francisco area, but if it tends to get too hot where you live the 6h could be beneficial.

I agree. I have a bed of tomatoes that gets 6 hours or less of sun, and it does marvelously. The cherries are seven feet high now, and the Big Beefs are six feet high. But yes, maybe that's optimal for me because of the heat. Though we haven't had much real heat yet this summer. It's been a cool spring.

Well, I'm way north of SF, so, though we do get some summer morning fog, we heat up usually into the 80-90s in the summer (last year was into the 100s many times!)

It's a little late to get new plants going, but we're going to try the new area. I'll keep you posted! Nancy

Late to get new plants going? But your first frost is probably November. You have loads of time, no?

Nancy if you can't find any new tomato plants try rooting a couple of cuttings off the existing ones to plant in the new space.
