you're asking us if your opinions in decor will change in 5 years? Is that really your question?

how will you be using them? what kind of layout? what else will in the room with it?

if it's any consolation I have the black/white cement tiles in my bathroom. I love it now. I'm suspecting I'll also love it 5 years from now. But I have the actual cement, moroccan inspired tiles, not the ceramic knock offs from Home Depot. Why don't you look at the nicer quality items. you'll have a better chance of liking the classic, well made tiles better than the cheapo knock-offs.

Thinking floor tile. Don’t want cement due to the need to seal, seal seal. Plus this is going in a townhouse that cost $110k. I’ll never get my money out of it when I sell in~7 years.

Do what you love, but consider that you could mix 2 or 3 stripes of the patterned tile into a field tile instead.

but in the interim you're living in it. I have mine in the shower, sealed it before installed, and haven't touched them since. they're fine. i it will look a lot better in 7 years than the HD tile. guaranteed. And, if you find them on sale, the cost won't be much more than the ceramic ones. What's the square footage of the floor? and what is the other tile in the shower?

The good thing is there is more white than black in this pattern. Therefore, it makes it easier to work with possibly. If your taste has been the same the past 10 years, it will probably be good, but if you are veering into new territory that is just a trend, and if trends change your mind, figure out what you would have to do to update it, BEFORE you install it, just in case. IE. Maybe it could be painted in the future without removing it. Maybe you could install something OVER it, if you had too, to camouflage it. If you can't figure out a budget friendly way to 'update' it if you have too in the future, than you probably should not spend the time on it, other than in a limited space of some kind....maybe a solid majority color of the area, and use this pattern as a medallion or a trim line of that area? Probably need to consider it for a few more days..

I know trends always change within 10 years. I’m wondering how long this one will last. I like my house to stay modern and newly updated. I plan to sell in about 5-7 years though so I’m wondering if I should go more mainstream.

put in what you like Kristy. don't decorate your house for possible buyers in 7 years! live w/what you like. the good thing is it's not so horrible that people wouldn't want to buy the home. If it's done well, they'll buy it. pair it w/classic white subways (do something a bit longer than 3x6. you're going for a bit more modern look) and a vanity in a oak shade like this

or a black oak like this. pair w/soft gold, or matte black, and white quartz countertops. It will look beautiful for the next 15 years.

I agree with everyone that said you should do it if you love it, and not just because it is on trend. I honestly don’t think you can ever go wrong with a pattern that is black and white, and I can’t think of examples or eras when it has been out of style.

then you're fine. remember, w/condos you're alway competing w/exact duplicates of your neighbors. make yours the stand-out. with quality items and a different look, they'll pay more for yours.

look on Lowes. under the Scott lines of vanities. they have a knock off to the RH open shelf one I just posted. The warm wood tones look nice w/the black and white. if you do a cool gray, tends to feel a little cold. try and find a natural wood tone. If you're DIY handy, look for a piece of mcm furniture and go that route. Accessories, mirror/lighting will be the things that make the flooring look great. Since the lighting/faucets are something that will be used daily, don't cheap out on those. get the good stuff so you'll never have to worry about down the line.

if you have a smaller vanity, look into doing a wall mount faucet. leaves you more countertop space.

Dark walls in your everyday bath will usually require upgraded lighting to be able to see yourself in the mirror. It can work well for a powder room where no one is really putting on make up or plucking their brows. Believe me, I love dark rooms but not bathrooms! This is my bedroom.

very nice Kristy. deco has a good point. is there a window? if not, make sure you have ceiling lighting as well as mirror lighting. or, if this is a second story, look into doing a sky tube.

then just do good lighting. the tiles are actually light. your shower is white. the countertop will be white, (I assume). even if you did the dark shiplap, it would still be fine w/good lighting.
