New hood or island light need suggestions?

I think our kitchen looks ok but something has always bugged me about our range hood and light over the island. I would love to hears or see some suggestions on how to add a little more excitement to the look of the kitchen by changing one or both pieces.

I think the range hood itself is fine, but it's the stainless steel piece that's the issue. Because it doesn't go all the way up to the hood it's visually cutting that space in half. If you extended it up it would make it more of a feature.

The light is a little old-fashioned compared to the rest of your decor. I think two pendants would look nicer and more updated than the current light.

Very Bistro style, however, the missing stainless is an issue. You can fill that in with a stainless backsplash that you can pick up at HD in the range exhaust fans area or add the stainless mosaic for texture.

And the biggest problem is that the chandelier was hung too high. 30" +/- from the top of the counter.

What is the stainless steel behind the stove? Agree with others that it's neither fish nor fowl at this point.

If it could be removed, I think backsplashes framing hoods adds some drama. I would personally want to add some color anyway with the backsplash but that's just me as I am opting for a "technicolor" kitchen with my current remodel :-)

Helen it appears there is an attached backsplash on the range with a SS shelf also attached.

Hi there! We wouldn't replace the vent hood at this time. If you want to change the light fixture we would suggest the following:

Pyramid chandelier

Metal shade chandelier

Modern chrome chandelier
