OBF August The Garden Times

*Our Blooming Friends Swap Group [0BF] was created to have a reliable, fair and safe haven to swap and trade between group members. If you care to join us, we would love to have you.

*Please be a successful member of GardenWeb/HOUZZ and have completed a trade with two or three of our members. Membership requests should be sent to Shirley [Brittneysgran]

  1. Have fun! No bickering!

2. Send your swap by posted deadline. If you are going to be late in sending, please POST that on the swap thread.....

3. Always include a Delivery Confirmation/Tracking number and post it on the swap thread when you send the package

4. Please send things that you yourself would enjoy receiving.

5. Please post after you have received your swap and post what you have received

6..You will be required to replace a swap package that does not make it to your partner, for any reason. Also you'll be required to replace any item that arrives broken/damaged.

7. New members, for the first two swaps, you will be required to send your swaps first.

8. If for some reason, you must pull out of a swap, please let the swap host know ASAP.

This month is back to school for many and the winding down of summer and fall is on the way. So for this swap we are going to take 5 sheets of paper and make a small booklet containing recipes, garden tips, and or garden ideas or garden craft projects. You choose what goes on your pages. You must also choose seeds, bulbs, cuttings that relate to each of your pages. Example: you make a page about irises you include an iris bulb. Another thought you make a page with a salsa recipe you include jalapeno seeds. I think you get the idea let's be creative. You may also choose other items relating to your pages to send if you want to.

This will be a simple swap as I know most of us are busy this month and it is time to slow down. Partners will be chosen on August 10, 2018.

We went to Disneyland to celebrate my granddaughters 4th birthday on Saturday. She had a ball.

Disney sure has changed. Last time I went the characters walked around and you just ran up to them (4 yrs ago) now they have a line and a person standing there directing each line. The whole day we only saw 5 characters out and available for autographs and pictures. They also had about 4 characters in the pixar dance studio.

How sad I took my kids to Disney years ago and the characters were everywhere, we had so much fun!! It was a blast! I hate they have turned to doing lines. Some things have to change with time I guess

We took our kids to Disneyworld in 95. Characters all over willing to give a hug and say hi. Snow White even tied my daughters shoe. Now that same daughter goes to Disney every year and tells me about the long lines waiting to meet a character. I'm sure it's a rushed meet and greet as well. I don't get it!!

My package is going out today. Watch your mailbox Shirley. Margo.

I have always thought I might try planting in bags skyblue52 but still haven’t . I think they would be great for herbs since you are always harvesting them.

    What a nice surprise!

Ladies, my garden has let me down this year, not producing much of anything, but what I picked yesterday was colorful. Here's a picture. The gourd shaped tomatoes are Mint Julep. I haven't figured out what to do with them yet. I tried just slicing one and eating it with salt. Not so good. I've never made fried green tomatoes, but I may look up a recipe and try that.

I just heard on the news that the temperatures will be a lot cooler tomorrow. Hooray!

I just received my package from Susan. Thank you. Can you please identify the herb and succulent for me. (sure smells good have no idea what they are) Im gonna have to open up my garage and grab my cactus soil out. Right now its blocked because I moved my pots in front of it because the kid next door is weeding my yard the last couple of rains have brought back the goat heads. Been stepping on them all week long.

Seeds- okra, radishes, carrots, cabbage, kale, parsley, and cabbage- Yum!! My garden will be awesome when planted in spring.

some helpful tips see the picture hope you can read them. And she sent me some canning labels- how did you know how badly I needed these- thank you!! And my favorite thing to make each year - she sent me a bread and butter pickle recipe! I love pickles!

Tammy, I love my gifts that you sent. They are all things I could use and enjoy!

Tammy sent soft cozy socks to wear after my epson salt soak (epson salts included). This is funny because I always say my tubby time is my favorite time of day! I could always use gloves and a great spray nozzle, plant tags and a awesome selection of seeds. I love the try erase boards and planting tracker and daytimer sheets included. To top it all off some pretzels to munch

on while I look over all the latest Houzz posts.
Thank you Tammy for all the tips and great goodies. Take care! This was a fun swap. Thank you so much! Amy

September swap is up. Morning glory mornings and Sunflower day . Come on over

    Love those dahlias.

Erica such a cute idea. She got me the food and wine mag. then tagged recipes and put seeds or plants that went with the recipes. The mojito mint lost some leaves . I popped them in my mouth for an accent to my cold beer. We are in triple digits heat index so the Moser Roth chocolate went right in the fridge.she sent seed baggies, glitter stickers , and pretty note book. Great box from my friend in Cali.
