Entry Exterior Design Dilemma

Victorian Style Front Door wanted

After 8 years of living with a Hideous UPVC front door on my Victorian terrace, I decided to get quotes for a door in keeping with the house, 4 panel, glazed like the one pictured. I must be naive because I'm shocked that both quotes have come in at almost 6000 pounds for door, frame, overhead glazed panel, and fitting.
Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can go about this process more cheaply or recommendations for companies that charge less for similar doors? I'm in London/Surrey. Thanks!

Sadly that doesn't sound particularly unreasonable. I'm in the states where that would be about $5000 USD- $3000 for the custom door unit (tempered glass plus patterned glass adds $$$) plus fitting it in a historic home (nothing straight) then final trim and finish. Plus you mention being in a city which always drives prices up due to mobilization/ access issues.

Things to try- go directly to woodworking shops to get a price on the door. Then ask them for suggestions on a woodworker. Or simplify so you are using a standard door so you only have to custom size the transom.
