I agree with above. Wait and get a feel for the space. If you like Restoration Hardware (they have free design services for their members ($100/year) and will help tie it all together for you. Or Arhaus. At either store, you can pick everything there and it will be gorgeous and all tie together. Congrats on your new home!

...and to add to what others have said, do the bedroom first. In the year or more that it will take to sort out the rest of the house, it’s good to have the room you retire to, with proper storage for your clothes, as a sanctuary from the temporary “make do for now” zone that will be the rest of your house.

I agree the bedroom first so you are getting a good nights sleep so that making good decisions is easier. I would suggest you spend some time getting idea books together before talking to a designer. I like getting feed back from my clients to make sure they get what is their home not mine.

Take your time! I think the suggestion to do one room at a time is a great one. If you get stuff all at once you’ll regret it later.

I always start with a spiral notebook, 5 x 8? I like the ones divided into four or five sections. You have so many options and decisions, you need to keep track of all the random info that comes your way. One section for “sources” (lightning companies, electricians, plumbers, furniture stores, , etc with addresses and phone numbers, one for random ideas, etc...you get the idea. The last section I dedicate at least two or three pages to each room of my new house, complete with dimensions of each room and, in pencil, my ideas for each room. “ Need lamp 32”, maybe black shade”, “ too sunny for sleep, use darkening shade”, etc. I also write my proposed budget for each item and each room,. This notebook goes everywhere with me so I can decide if I can use a table I find or a get inspired by a piece of fabric.
