We are going to be replacing our wood deck with a deck made of composite material next year. We live in northern Canada so we get a lot of snow. Next to the deck is a flower bed that contained a tree and a large shrub. We had both of these removed as they are too big for the space and blocking light into the house. We noticed that this bed will need to be regraded prior to planting again. My question is should we wait to being in quality soil and regrade next year after the deck is built or should we do this now? I have 2 concerns. First, if we bring in good soil to fix the grade and to get ready for planting next year will it end up getting building materials all over it and is this a concern? The bed is sloping into the house and I am not sure if we need to worry about water getting into the basement after the spring thaw - any idea how to assess the slope to determine if this is a concern?Appreciate some advice and thanks.
