A new Memory idea - a Christmas ornament

I've never seen this idea before, so I thought I'd share it with you. This is a Christmas ornament made from a loved one's ties. I have permission from Susan Nelson of Prairie Sky Quilting to post this photo of a memory star that she made from her late father-in-law's ties. She made them for family members for Christmas. They are about 4" across and are piped with metallic gold cord. They are perfect, as is everything Susan does.

    Sharon, I think tie fabric tends to be slippery. :) When I first looked at the photo I thought it was more 3D - points extending in all planes. Now it looks like all the points are in one plane. I think sewing like you said wouldn't be too hard, and instead of piping I think I would do hand embroidery around the edge - stem stitch or couching.
