January 2019 Quilting/Sewing Goals

I'm having trouble pulling myself together and thinking about a list for January. Then I read Wedding Dress Blue's blog and see that at the beginning of the year she makes a list of her Ambitions and Dreams for the year. January's assignment, if you wish to accept it, is to make a list of things that, in your wildest dreams you would like to make....or do. And, include those things you know you're going to do this year like make every BOM that's posted. It doesn't matter if you do or not, the intention is there....an Ambition. Add and delete throughout the year as desired. Add in certain UFOs instead of just putting down UFO. Then let us know when you've been able to type 'completed' after a certain project.

I have 5 BOMs left from last year, I may or may not get them done. But, I'm starting fresh with the BOM here, so that's one thing on my January list. Another thing is to start quilting the BRB quilt. I have squares cut for a Split 9 Patch variation in greens and off whites with a gold center square and have a few blocks made. Get my Dreams and Ambitions for 2019 list made. :-)

I'm trying to make it easy on myself this year. How about you?

    This one has me pondering.

i always thought I would like to make a Bargello. That is a dream which probably won't get realized though.

Ambition: I would like to make at least one Chemo quilt a month. That is more realistic. I do have two Lotto winnings waiting to be put together but each needs more blocks. There is one top waiting to be sandwiched and quilted. Hopefully this month. And of course doing the BOM is high on the list.

During Dec. I actually made a short list of things I should do and it is on the bulletin board next to the machine. I will have to check it out. I don't remember what I put.

I have a bin of polycottons from years ago, still in good shape. So doing something with those is a possibility. Something for the bazaar.

I am sure more ideas will pop up as the year unfolds.

So to everyone, a healthy, happy and productive 2019.

Theresa, you could always do bargello placemats or a table runner - that way you get to try it without committing to a big quilt. :)

I'd have to say my one ambition for 2019 is to finish a really large cross stitch project that has been in progress for many years. I worked on it a lot at the beginning of 2018 and thought I would finish last year, but I didn't! So, I'd love to get that off my project list this year.

Dreams - I'd love to finally make one or two of the projects on my "some day" list. That list is separate from my "projects on hand" list, and my "in progress list", and always ends up at the end of the line. Oh, yeah, there's a "to be quilted list", too.

I need to retire so I have time to sew!

My only goal is to really work at using up my stash and donate most of the resulting quilts to charity. I got $100 in gift certificates for Missouri Star for Christmas and will probably end up buying several more jelly rolls or layer cakes which will make the goal even more difficult. I'm going to concentrate on making mostly easy quilts that have very few points and hard things to match. I'm here to enjoy the journey and not prove anything at my age.

Donna, good idea. I just watched Jordan Fabrics video doing exactly that.

Fran, I am with you on your journey. I will never use up what I have and what I make now goes to Chemo patients. So quick and easy is the way to go, except I like to do something different on each one.

I'm not much of a planner, but I do have a few things I'd like to do this year. One, finish knitting a scarf for my sister that I started several years ago. Two, make a kimono wallhanging that I have kitted up on Maui and leave it there with my friend. Third, piece a child's snowball quilt which is also on Maui waiting for me. Fourth, work on a quilt called Crossroads by Paula Barnes and Mary Ellen Robison. I actually bought almost all new fabric for this one, something I haven't done for a while. The border fabric I found is, guess what color, brown. I'm doing it in browns, reds and blues. I'm excited to start this one, but it will have to wait until April.

That is a beauty! Is she the designer of your stunning Antique Stars quilt?

I wish you luck with your plans.

Yes, Theresa, it's also from her book Tributes and Treasures. She designs beautiful reproduction fabrics too. As much as I love modern quilts, I am really becoming enamored of the darker reproduction fabrics that comprise the more traditional quilts. One of the few LQS left in my area specializes in civil war/reproduction fabrics. I could spend hours there - in fact, I have.

I'm so sorry about your dental issues. I hope you're feeling better each day.

Worthy goals all. I am with Fran in slimming down by stash. There are 3 quilts sandwiched and ready to quilt, two more tops to sandwich and I also inherited the king size patchwork quilt I made for my mother when I was 16 yo. Back then I only tacked the corners of the 4 inch squares, but I need to do additional tacking, or maybe even machine quilting. She kept it in amazing condition, I'm just not sure I am ready to tackle that right now.
