Update on my black knitted sweater...turned out to be an utter disaster and did not finish it. It was top down, came out way too large, even on DH! And working on the sleeves in the round while flipping around the entire sweater -- which I had to put in a zip-lock bag to protect it -- on every round was driving me nuts.

I am now unravelling it as I'm knitting a new one, a bottom up where I can work the separate pieces, work flat all the way and already can tell it's going to be a lot nicer product.

I saw a quote somewhere that said the master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried, so I'm going with that. The fail has been a real learning experience, so that alone was worth my time.

Not to mention that working on black is nearly impossible!!

Annie, the afghan is so pretty! I'm sorry to hear of the difficulty with the sweater, but it's a learning experience! I recently knitted a sweater with a simple checkerboard pattern - alternating stockinette blocks with yarn-over blocks. I kept messing it up - one front I restarted three times after working a whole bunch of rows. I finally finished it, though!

I'm a new knitter and have learned I'm not a natural. Something about staying focused, lol. I enjoy it though so will stay with it and hopefully persistence will pay off.

I always enjoy seeing your latest project, Annie. You never disappoint and it is such a great cause. I don’t crochet, but I used to cross stitch a lot and did a little needlepoint and knitting, and I can’t tell you how many times I have ripped out rows of thread when I boo-boo’d.

What a beautiful blanket. Some lucky child is going to love snuggling with it. I crochet blankets for preemies in the NICU so I know your beautiful work will be appreciated.

My Bubbe made me an afghan just like that Annie. Different color scheme but same pattern. I sill have it at the end of my bed, 50 years later.

I'm half done with my 6th blanket (Project Linus) plus random baby hats for local hospital and scarves for women's abuse shelter. My stash may not go down for awhile - a friend and I visited some AC Moore stores in the waning days of their closing sale and came away with many bags of yarn for minimal prices.

I'm surprised to see this thread revived as it's over a year old...not that I'm unhappy to receive so many nice compliments!
