Here is an idea of what you might get if you reduced the overhang by 1/2.

This is really the only way of raising the eaves -- without raising the roof.

Yes that is just the effect we want! It depends of course on the exact roof pitch; I think it might be 8/12. Our main goal is to raise the eaves, and the overhang reduction will be fine as a consequence. The eaves being right over the windows creates a foreboding effect on the exterior, and hems in the light and views from the interior.

Can you help envision an attractive way to raise the porch roof as well?

Hi! We ended up reducing our overhang and raising the eaves off the windows about 6” I think. It was a lot of work but it looks great now. I will try to take a few pictures later.
