Add ONE accent color......navy perhaps, it need not be black.... and acknowledge it in the art. rugs. one bolster pillow.... a throw.

Agree with Jan about everything! Definitely lose the plants, they’re just weird there. If you do want a rug, do a bigger furry soft rug...the jute type rug looks like an indoor outdoor rug.

What a nice spacious bedroom! First priority is blackout curtains. Get that hero the sleep he deserves. :) Found these on Wayfair. I prefer hanging them with rings. (Do the doors open out? If not, I'm not sure how practical curtains there are.) I like the idea of curtains of a similar colour as the wall. There are blackout solar shades on the market now, from the spam I've seen here. That would be a good simple option for the small window.

I love your night tables. They look very functional. If the colour doesn't work for you, change it. A metallic finish, as JAN MOYER suggested, might be fun. I agree that lamps would look good.

The current rug does look too small. If replacing it, try one with a subtle pattern.

It might be interesting to change the furniture layout as suggested by JAN though I can understand why the mirror makes sense close to the closet. I'd be tempted to move the pictures above the dressers - 2 or 3 over each? - and find a larger piece of art with colour for above the bed. Repeat the colour with a new throw on the bed. Enjoy the tweaking! :)

I think your room looks great! I would only make a few tweaks!

-either lose the rug or replace with a larger one, not brown. Maybe muted colors with more texture pattern to it? Or something with an accent color. I don’t think you need it - but if you want a rug for added texture and color- add texture and color! :)

-the wall space above each dresser is a little bare. Maybe a mirror or artwork over each- or, a tall case or plant there- some height here there would help.

-on your night stands, I’d re-home the plants and find something with more height.

-can you eliminate the plastic drawer unit next to the wall? I’d see if you can thin out your drawers/closet enough that you don’t need that. It fits there, but looks crammed. Or, can it fit in the closet where it’s out of sight?

-finally, I’d clear off the table under the TV. Leave TV related equipment. Then style it a bit, maybe a short stack of two books with one of those small plants on top. Give it a little style so it’s less utilitarian and looks like it’s part of the decor!

I think your room is beautiful and don’t think you need any major changes, just a few tweaks! That’s my opinion! :)

Forgot to say: blackout liners you can add to existing curtains exist. It's usually a matter of figuring out which option makes more sense budget-wise. Sometimes, it's less expensive to replace completely.

I like the look of a rug layered over carpet, but think yours is a bit small and the brown color isn't enhancing the space. I'd look for something patterned to add a bit of life. I'd also remove whatever is next to the chest of drawers to the right of the French doors, center both pieces on their respective walls, and add a piece of framed art above each one. Overall, you've already created a lovely room. You just need to warm it up a bit.
