The problem is likely not what you did, but reading online. I would not have a panic attack over it. If you used a spreader and reasonable setting, I doubt that you caused any damage, or lasting damage as, in the first place, Scotts is not giving you directions that takes you within a hair's breadth of total grass destruction. There is some leeway. If you did cause damage, water plus time will be your friend.

Normally when applying fertilizer and many other chemicals, you'd want to split the rate in half, and then cover the ground twice, taking a perpendicular approach on the second application. That way, there are no stripes in the application pattern, but instead, uniform coverage.

would you have a recommended watering schedule, so far it’s not burning and just finished raining. There was a tonne of rain between the two applications as well.

If you over fertilized that much it would be brown/dead by now. Stop fertilizing until next year. No need to water unless you really want it to grow ! Cut the grass, and learn from your mistake. Are you saying I have hope since it’s been 24 hours since my second application and there is no burn spots yet?

If you applied once and then went back to fill in spots you missed, even in spite of some overlap, it's doubtful you put enough on to hurt it. I think this is going to be a nothing-burger.

And ... you got the benefit of learning how to create stripes!!!
