That is certainly possible, however they do have some stand alone sinks that me easier/more cost effective.

Is there a reason why you don't want countertop? is it due to space restrictions? or you just prefer the look?

To be honest it seems to be that with the new washing machines I have not had a need for a laundry sink for a long time.But the standalone ones are quite attractive but IMO if you need one I think counter on either side is a must as mentioned.

I had a large laundry room sink for years until the washer and dryer died within 3 days of each other. I gutted the laundry room, added subway tiles and ripped out that ugly huge laundry sink that always looked messy, and just put a black sink that I got at Home Depot. I don’t miss that old huge sink one bit. My laundry/mud room is small and the old sink was an eyesore.

there are so many options to choose from. if you don't want a cabinet, do a free standing or a wash basin w/built in legs/support. look at utility sinks if you don't want a cabinet. maybe check a salvage yard for one of the told cast iron utility sinks.

Thanks but I think I didn’t articulate clearly. We are having a cabinet built— we just need to figure out what goes on top re: sink and if it can just be a sink and not a counter, that would be what we want. I don’t need a stand along utility sink or an assembled unit...

What size is the cabinet?

What style is the sink?

Undermount sink? Yes, you need a counter.

Drop in sink? Yes, you need a counter.

Do a quick Google for the dimensions of the sink; when you compare those dimensions to the dimensions of the sink, you'll see that the sink has to be attached to something to prevent it from falling into the cabinet, assuming the cabinet is standard dimensions. The faucet has to sit on either the sink or the countertop, depending on the style of sink...unless you're installing an in-wall faucet.

build.com has drop-in laundry sinks for as little as $100. It appears, however, that they all sit on top of or underneath a counter top (i.e., they don't sit on the cabinet) and that your 24" cabinet is too narrow. You may have to use a small kitchen sink instead.

I am wondering the same. I have a 24 x 22 cabinet on the way. Would love to drop a sink in without any countertop. Pretty much having the whole top be sink and a rim that would sit on top of cabinet. Any suggestions?

I have the same question. While I appreciate everyone that wants to redesign your laundry room, that isn't what you and others here are asking. Myself I have a 27" wide x 24" deep cabinet that I would like to install 1 large utility sink in w/out a countertop. I can't seem to find any online.

Jeff,,you can't find a utility sink online?? you aren't looking very well. Just cut the cabinet so a sink of any design can fit. Finish off the inside of the cab w/luan and paint. slide the sink in between the two ends.

there are vintage sinks, new sinks that look vintage, floating, or ones w/legs, some are porcelain, some are fiberglass.

We had the utility sink with legs shown above. Hated it. When we installed a new stacked washer & dryer set recently, we trashed the old utility sink with its wobbly legs, and made a custom base to fit the space. DH built the frame base, cobbled together some cherry butcher block scraps from the kitchen project for a top, and we dropped in a nice big Franke sink. Then I added cute curtains. Big improvement! I googled and found the cast iron wall mount (first photo above). It would have been perfect! But DH really wanted to build a base :)

FWIW, our laundry sink is a smallish ( no larger than a dinner plate) stainless steel drop-in that sits in a smallish bathroom vanity type cabinet, in the laundry room. Think of a kitchen sink in a small apartment, and you get the idea. LOL. It is Better than nothing because this house is my first time to have a laundry room. . . . And a utility/laundry sink.

There is approx 4" of Formica counter space around the sink that I use to sit stuff on all the time. The sink is small, nothing fancy, and I am ever so grateful to have it.

I did not find one that will drop in and cover my existing cabinet. Looks like I will use a countertop and cut one in. I was hoping to find a sink similar to the all in one picture from Beth H above. But that is an all in one purchase from Home Depot, etc. The sink is flimsy and actually pits very easily (I had one).

I'm looking for the same thing. I plan to purchase a cabinet base that will match my upper cabinets and no luck finding a sink that doesn't require a counter. I'd most definitely do a counter if I had the space, but we don't. What did you end up doing?
