I agree, go with new landscaping. Right now there's very little interest. Flowers and even herbs and vegetables, some in pots, would look fantastic.

If you want to keep the color on the house the same I'd go for colorful shutters and door. What is your favorite jewel tone?

It's an adorable house. I'd trim everything and move the beds out so you can put in some colorful plantings, azalea, hydrangea, annuals, etc. You could change the front door color to almost anything. A deep red would be very pretty.

I would remove or redesign the portico. To me it looks like a flaw or a poorly conceived addition.

Agree with portico comment, looks like it was added for protection from poor weather. If you still want that feature, look at shed porticos or awnings. The columns and the base of the existing portico are out of proportion with the house.

I agree we could use some extra landscaping. Unfortunately we had to extend the driveway into what was once grass because we didn’t have enough space to park 2 cars side by side and if this is forever home we just had get some extra parking. We now have more hardscape in our front yard which. We added boxwoods around the front of house and driveway to try to give some landscaping to the hardscape. I’ll look into getting some big potted plants to try and soften front door area. I agree the columns and front porch over hang are not proportional to the house and look funny.

For now you could look for larger black planters (in a style you like) to place at the base of the steps. Fill them with colorful blooms...red would look great with your house. Ivy geraniums are always a nice choice...vs the zonal variety shown in this photo.

A more cottagey garden is appropriate for your house. The boxwoods are too formal and “blah” to enhance curb appeal.

The boxwoods need a serious shaping. I have to do mine at least once a year. The plant that is closest to your house....is too close.

I agree we are overdo for plant trimming and shaping. That will make all the difference.

My hope is if I can get some better columns and carve out and smooth the front porch exterior that will help make it look less awkward..was going to repaint exterior a creamy white with steal shutters. This is a favorite house of mine that is somewhat in the neighborhood.

Was going to look into getting a quote for bronze gutters, I feel like that will help give some dimension. Here are some examples of front porches I have been studying. I want to show this cute half circle transom window that's original to our house.

I suppose your columns could be wrapped in something to beef them up--but mostly I think they entire house is ADORABLE and wouldn't mess with it much. Color would be good--door, flowers....

I do agree the gabled portico looks a bit off and could look better without it. Kind of like the idea of an awning as mentioned, maybe something metal, like copper.

The landing space seems to be on the small scale. I might give some thought to expanding that area, allowing for more than one guest to stand. A future project..lol.

Love the body color of the home and would go for a lighter shutter color with an accent on the door, like photo below. Sprucing up the landscaping, some adorable window boxes and voila', instant charm! :)

Trim the hedges. Paint the front door something bright (a color that you may have in the living room). Add some flowers or flowering shrubs which are zoned for your area. The house is really cute.

Wrap the columns to make them more substantial, rein in the landscaping and paint the front door red. Cute house only needs a little bit to make it just right.

Cute, cute, cute! I would remove the undersized portico and install an awning. Could be round or not, fabric, metal or poly. Landscape control will enhance it and save you lots of labor.
