Show him pictures of hotel rooms he likes, that’s what I did (in our case, Cosmopolitan Las Vegas) or go to furniture stores where beds are made up.

Tell him you don’t want to live in a college student’s dorm, which is what those dark masculine comforters look like to me! Lol

IMO guys are not going to like flowers so I try to keep our bedding kind of neutral not too fem. but not too masc. We have a gray bedroom with dark charcoal bedding for the winter and a white mattlesse for the summer I do not agree that dark colurs are college dorm at all. I love gray bedrooms they are restful and can be awesome.This is one of my favorites and certainly not any college dorm I have ever seen

I can certainly tell you how I would do this, to address your differing ideas. I would plan to purchase a comforter that your husband likes (maybe a bit lighter, maybe with a bit of texture, if he's ok with that). And then have your pattern with the sheets, or with blanket that you can (sometimes) fold at the foot of the bed.

Bedding is a splurge for me, and I love having a linen duvet (very poufy), something snuggly like micro fleece or velvet or even faux fur, but then a quilt, too. And lately I'm loving jersey knit sheets, which comes in patterns as well. So when you mix up the bedding as time goes on, you get to work in the extra colors/patterns with the seasons. For me, one comforter is only a foundation. Just a thought. So what I'm really saying is to give him what he wants, but then add in what you want.

To Patricia Coldwell, that bedroom is beautiful, and even though the bedding is a darker color, it has great texture. I see how that could work for me. I was so focused on wanting light colored bedding because our walls are dark, but it seems like both being darker can work together.

To cd7733, I do like the mixing of light and dark. Charcoal and white sound appealing!

To Mrs S, I think we have always gone with the comforter that he likes, but I've never attempted to have "my layer". I'll think on that. :)

This has always been our struggle too!! I vote for a lighter gray spread that has texture in it. Then see if you can get a couple floral throw pillows, or a rug, or artwork or something to help balance masculine & feminine!

I agree Patricia, I love that gray, but it is definitely more muted and lighter than the ones she posted. You could always do white with a gray throw like the navy posted above.

I would use a simple solid comforter that your husband likes, with patterned sheets that you like. Patterned sheet are fun and you can change out the colors and patterns more often.

Please be careful in copying the colors in Patricia's photo...In the pictured bedroom,there is wonderful lighting: a chandelier on the ceiling, two bedside lamps (we only see one on the right of the bed), a floor lamp,two sconces on the fireplace wall and at least one mirror on the right of the bed,,,chances are there is another mirror on the left of the bed....all these factors contribute to the look of the grey fabrics. It's a beautiful room because of all these elements. What is similar in your room?

threers, nothing is similar in my room, ha! I would never attempt (because I would surely fail) in a million years something so sophisticated as that bedroom, but I do think it is beautiful! I do think that the darker walls and darker bedding can work together though.

I disagree there are elements form that space that are easy to incorporate the point was to give her an idea of a gray bedroom and how it can be a long way from a dorm room. The gray on the bed could be darker with a white or very pale gray throw. Inspirations are exactly that not meant to be copied exactly.

This is my point: without all that beautiful lighting, you will have a dark room with dark walls and a dark bed! Try dark walls and light bedding or light walls and dark bedding. But also I recommend trying what you think will look good and see what happens!

Ok, I'm thinking light bedding. Will show my husband these three options tonight. Fingers crossed he likes one of them.

You can always add color with decorative pillows etc.

These are neutrals that will go a long way and you can change whenever you can.
