I used one of these so I could turn on my garage lights from the house. I used a wall-mount kit that surface mounted the remote switch at the house end so that it looks like a standard wall switch. https://www.casetawireless.com/ The other "half" of the system replaced the existing wired wall switch. IIRC I picked it up at Home Depot

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

The hutch is six feet tall - so putting a lamp on top would look strange!

The wireless switch solutions would work but I was trying to avoid having to add another, separate switch to the location - there are already four switches there - including the existing light switch for the room.

If you use the thing I posted, you could remove the switch for the outlet (and connect the wires so that it is 'always on') and place the remote switch in the box in that location.

You'll have the same number of switches as you currently have.

Is there a non-Decora version of that switch? I couldn't find anything on their web site.

Probably not. All fancy new things tend to be Decora shaped. :)

The fancier systems like ZWave etc... can accomplish this. You put a "controller" switch where you want it and it can control any compatible switch or other device.
