Move the TV. The view is everything, and the TV is plunk in the middle of it. Start assembling an idea book about what you'd like the room to look like (the way you have it divided looks like a great start). Thinking about "bringing the outside in", so your indoors integrates with the outdoors.

Yes, it would be great if the windows were MUCH bigger, even just one wall of them. If you keep them the same on the other wall (e.g. the wood wall), you will have a good space for a sofa under it.

The ceiling lights need changing.

Add warmth to the wall shade. It looks too gray for the wood.

This space has a casual feel. Keep that in mind, and stay away from formal.

If it were me, I'd go all Ikea, and get light and airy furniture to go with the rather light and airy style of that house. Use a light-colored Ikea rug (shag?) in the living room area to pull it altogether. The more traditional furniture is weighing the room down IMO.

I would like to see an actual to scale floor plan and also some pics of the exterior. I often see this with cabins where the only heat source is a wood stove so a bit of info as to the reason for the wood stove . I would for sure try to have TV in only one space .

Hi Lots of potential here! I would remove the pipe, enlarge the windows and remove the window on the tv wall. I don't have your exact measurements, but I did do a mock-up for you to help you envision the possibilities.

If you need a tv put it on the wall where the piano is. Use rugs to define spaces and keep furniture light in form so it doesn't seem overcrowded, though you could go with a longish dining table. Looks like a neat space!

I really like the three windows. we're having trouble deciding what to do about the windows. we are definitely changing them. this really helps. the tv wall we were thinking of putting a fireplace or woodstove there. the pipe in the middle of the room goes down to the basement to a woodstove which is our secondary heat source. we live rural so this is important. we will be moving the piano and the tv and unit out of that room when hubby gets some extra muscle help. old TVs weigh a million lbs!

I'm sorry if I'm being confusing. I'm new to Houzz and I don't even know if I'm doing things correctly on here. yes, the pipe is being eliminated. The reason it is in the middle of the room is because the original design of the house called for a woodstove or fireplace right there in the middle of the dining area. The people who built the house, decided they wanted to put the woodstove in the basement instead. So now the pipe runs through the room. we will take the pipe and woodstove out completely and put a new woodstove or fireplace in the living room where the t.v. is in the mock up you provided. I was thinking of doing a fireplace with built in cabinets on either side of it but I'm not sure. so if we do have a t.v. it will be small and on one of the lower shelves in said cabinets maybe on the right in the corner.
Can I ask where you did the mock up? Is it something available online or is it your own software? It is so helpful to be able to see how we could do things.

I'm posting some new pictures. Today I shrunk my table down and tucked the leafs away inside it so we would have a bit more space. The original pictures I posted here were from a little over a year ago. These two are from today. still have move the piano and tv unit. We won't be painting the wood, but what colour would you paint the walls? I'm so stuck between white to brighten up a big airy space or dark teal for drama or something else. I can't decide. unfortunately we cannot get new furniture at this time. I could slip cover it. As for the traditional table, it was my mother's and I can't get rid of it so it stays. I think right now we will have to rely on paint and getting rid of the pipe and piano and tv unit for now to make things look better. And new windows. Our remodelling will be a very slow process.

It is okay to remodel overtime, but you need to have an overall plan. Otherwise, it is going to be hodge-podge looking. I use Live Home 3d Pro for my renderings. I have 20 years of design experience and 5 years of experience with 3d renderings.

Least expensive thing you can to is paint. The railing is very imposing. Painting all out a very light color will do wonders.

What are your other options for placing the piano if you move it?

part of the issue is the different tones of wood and the grayness of the floors. they clash somewhat. the floor looks like cool grays/some lavender undertones and maybe some slate tones. All of your wood is very warm, w/yellow to orange undertones. White or a cream wall would be safe. you could try a sage green, but it would have to work w/that floor. The current blue of your walls really intensifies the orange in the wood.

would you be up for painting the wood baseboards, the wood around the windows and possibly that one paneled wall? Just bring in some white w/those 3 changes would be a welcome relief from all of that wood. I like your wood ceiling, but if you just painted that one wall, I think it would give you what you're looking for

btw, you could use slipcovers for your furniture like shown in the first pic.

btw, instead of those curly-q light bulbs protruding from your ceiling, could you change them out for these barn style light-pendants shown below in this pic?

at the very least paint out the window trim and baseboards, paint the wall a lighter tone, slipcover the furniture w/a heavy white material and bring in a large rug

if you move the piano, try moving the sofa under the window and the tv on the other wall where the piano is. perhaps you could find a console for the tv?

see this layout? do yours like this with a rug in the same position. (only your chairs would be on the far wall)

I would recommend AGAINST a fireplace. It sounds like you need a back up heating source. A fireplace won't make that happen for you. You'll need a woodstove. Not pellets, either, since those require electricity to run.

With the orange tone of the majority of the wood, I would look for a pale sage green paint. If it has some grey to its appearance it might manage to tie the flooring in a bit better.
