Getting sweet pepper seeds to sprout

last modified: 6 years ago

Any tips on the best way to get pepper seeds to germinate? Inside, to start plants. I don't have a greenhouse. I know they want to be warm.

So far they seem to sprout best for me basically just lying on top of the soil. I have been watering them with rather warm water using a sprayer/ mister, keeps them from floating around. They want to be moist, but being too wet seems counterproductive. A cover doesn't seem to help. Lights help them germinate?

I tried the wet paper towel in a plastic bag, but hard to find a consistently warm spot, maybe it helped the seeds sprout faster, I dunno. Not sure it is worth the effort, since I'm growing multiple varieties in small quanties.
