Maybe shutters

We just pulled out the overgrown flower beds. Now trying to figure out some structural improvements before we replant.

You can do a lot with landscaping. A few more pictures of the front of the house, would be helpful. Taken from further back, or off to one side, so we can see the entire front.

Depending on your budget. Start with evergreen foundation plants, closest to the house. Then, add some lower growing bushes, in front of that, and next, groundcover, or low flowering plants. You do not have to have 3 teirs of plantings all around the house, but you might put some groupings here and there, to add some lushness.

You can do sections at a time, and just work on it, as you get the funds. Maybe add a tree or 3 in your front or side yard. Honestly, we need a little more information from you.
A tree, maybe 20 - 30 feet from the house, on ... maybe the left front corner, might be nice.

If you have a walkway leading from the driveway to the front door, I would consider planting some bushes on the street side of the walk. On the house side you can plant some areas of lower growing flowers, giving an enclosed feeling to the walkway, and it makes sort of a 'secret garden' between the walk and the house, itself. I hope that makes sense.

The columns appear too spindly, and not spaced correctly. The front door needs to have a "pop" of color" to allow for a focal point in the front of the house. Shutters would also add character, and landscaping with lots of colors and curves....good luck! :)

HI -- You need some trees that have a full top to bring down the volume of the roof . You need some frames added to the windows to make them look more as one and same on the single size windows and maybe also add some shutters to the single size window. Just have some mass plantings of foundation plants , those could be daylilies , junipers , roses , flowering shrubs or ornamental grasses . The pillars look too small , so those could be beefed up . Can you move the down spout to the end of the roof ? Add some pilasters to the front door and paint the door a great bright color or black. Add some landscape lighting and better lighting for the front porch . Maybe eliminate the flower beds in front of the porch and have a stone patio area in front and also adding the stone to the porch floor and a walkway.

I do agree about the columns they need a little more to them. As well maybe think of adding a gable or two to the roof. The roof looks on the newer side of its life span but could easily be tied into the old at the hips. Changing the roof completely would be something to consider in the future as well by using a more defined architectural laminate or standing seam.

I agree - replacing those spindle columns with some hefty 12"x12" sized columns will make it look like that large roof is being supported substantially. Add some nice shutters to your windows, possibly repaint the front door. Make that large porch work for you - many people dream of front porches. Find a good sized bench or trunk and add it on the right side under those windows. A cute little table between your rockers for a place to set a glass of iced tea.

As far as the landscaping goes .. I would keep whatever it is low. Don't add in a bunch of bushes that are going to obstruct the view of your lovely front porch! I could see a hedge on the right side under that single window. A tree or two in the foreground would be nice too.
