It's just the two of us now at our house. I keep ours in one of our master bedroom closets. It's right outside the master bath where the hamper is.

I have always used laundry baskets in each of my bedroom closets. When changing clothes, the soiled ones go into the baskets. It is so easy on laundry day to put all the clothes in one basket (unless you have lots of clothes in the basket) Mother always had a hamper and as I remember, it got smelly from the damp, sweaty clothes being packed inside. A basket in each closet worked for me...I have had laundry rooms in the basement and laundry rooms off the kitchen so distance did not make any difference.

we keep empty baskets on top of the dryer (in the laundry room/closet). however, we just bring the hampers downstairs for laundry day, and the clean laundry goes back up in the hamper (and occasionally an overflow basket). open air so nothing grows in there!

I just keep them in an unused guest room and go get them when I need to load up and go downstairs.

We bought some collapsible plastic laundry baskets at Costco last year. When not in use we collapse them and stick them in the closet or cupboard In the various bedrooms or laundry. Very handy.

We each have a laundry basket in our closet. I have a small basket in the laundry room, where whites accumulate until I get enough for a load.

I got these very nice flexible laundry baskets at The Container Store several years ago. I ended up buying 5, cause they were discontinuing them. I live in a small house. I put 2 in our master, one near each side of the bed, tucked along side the dresser and night stand. Another 2, are down stairs to collect clean laundry and bring back up stairs. There are 2 aqua and 2 black. the Black stay down stairs and the aqua in the bedroom. Of course there is a lot of back and forth, lol, with my management. The fifth basket I have in the closet I store the vacuum and it holds bags, and the variety of extra heads. Then I have a larger basket of a different style for the bathroom, to collect towels and clothing.

I don't use a hamper. I have laundry baskets in all bedroom closets to toss in dirty laundry. No storage necessary.

I use an Elfa drawer system. I use the narrow one and find the drawers that are three slides deep are the perfect size for one load. I made labels-light colors, dark colors, jeans, white to bleach, delicates. Laundry gets sorted as we take off clothes and it has, for years now, solved the “where are my khakis?” Whoever sees dark clothes basket is full takes it to the laundry room, runs the load, and takes the folded clothes back upstairs. We don’t usually find we are running a half load or have too many towels for one load as the baskets are self limiting.

We have tall laundry baskets in each of our closets for dirty clothes, and take them to the laundry room to do a load then put them back in place empty. We use the open rectangular low ones to put clean clothes in from the dryer and take back to our rooms. TBH, sometimes we end up just pulling clean clothes out of the rectangle baskets and not putting it away before we use it all. The rectangular baskets live in the laundry room stacked inside each other when not in use.

Although I have a laundry and ironing room, Sons and wives use it too for their families, so I put a semi automatic in my large bathroom and that works out for me as the laundry and ironing Is all done on same floor as bedrooms- really makes life easier!

I have the hampers in the bedrooms and they appear in front of the laundry room when someones needs laundry done. We have international students and I do the laundry but only if you leave your hamper by the laundry. I do laundry every day so not much to carry anywhere my husband and I have our hamper in our bathroom. I should mention we have all our bedrooms on the main floor plus the laundry space. We have a walk out basement so no upstairs bedrooms.

We don't use baskets but everyone (3 kids plus my husband and I) has hampers in our bedroom closets. Kids take their clothes to the laundry room and wash, dry, fold them and return them to their rooms.

I prefer a lid on my laundry baskets..and find ikea the best resource for all the containers i use...they are sturdy..well-made...designed for maximum load and cheap...mine are in service in our master closet for at least 10 years..we have all our hanging rods at full height and the hampers go in the space under my husbands shirts so no extra floor space needed...for whites ...in between ...an open top trash can with open top ...because my husband needs a visual reminder to put whites in there
