Is there a way to camouflage this bad tree trunk?

We have recently moved into my in-laws previous home. He had planted this red leafed tree and at one point it had broken off. Instead of removing it and replacing with a new tree, he elected to let a sucker grow as the main tree & this is what we are left with. We know it won't last forever, but for now it is providing us with much needed shade & heat relief for our West facing floor-to-ceiling living room windows.

I am searching for a economical solution to hiding this bad trunk, such as a climbing vine, raised garden bed or tree bench. I know raised garden beds are not the best for the tree, but knowing this tree will not be long lived anyway, what are your thoughts on doing this?

Any opinions/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. See my temporary solution in the comments.
