At the end of February we hired a Contractor who had high ratings on Home Advisor to install ceramic tile in our basement. He sent 2 subcontractors who were in our house 2.5 days. We would go down at times to offer water and look at progress. As we weren't able to walk on the floor, we couldn't see our basement closet or the other half of the basement. The closet had 4 very full shelves with fabrics, tablecloths, prints, etc. I hung 2 sheets up on both sides of the closet to cover the shelves as I knew the closet door would be open for the installation. Right after the 2 subcontractors left, I opened the door and knew immediately things had been stolen. The 2 sheets were rolled up on the floor. The once full shelves were no longer filled. My husband said I had to be sure and make a list of all the items taken before I accused the subcontractors. A robe I bought for my father in Japan that was in its original packaging was gone. My mother's beautiful peignoir -- robe & nightgown - in tissues and special wrapping was gone. Other articles of clothing were gone. My husband was concerned if we accused the subcontractors something bad might happen. I was beside myself. The contractor had asked my husband to make sure to write a review on Home Advisor. My husband gave him 1 star to let Home Advisor know he wasn't happy with them. The Contractor called once but my husband didn't respond. I just saw the Contractor lied on the Home Advisor review, said he'd been in touch with my husband to clear the matter up and my husband told him he didn't write a review which is a lie. What can I do now? I made a big mistake not calling the Contractor as soon as I knew things had been stolen. It is 4 months later, I don't have proof. But he is lying.
