Since you have the labor taken care of for installation, take a look at this company, Crown Point Cabinetry. You buy direct from the company and the cabinets are made in the USA. I did a lot of research on them and everything I read was positive and I also talked to the owner's wife who is one of the designers. I was going to order my kitchen through them but the door style I decided on is something they don't carry. I haven't decided on my bathroom and laundry room cabinet styles yet but if they have what I want, I would have no problem ordering from them. I don't know how their pricing is but they did come out in the past year with a "competitive" line so it may be worth your while to take a look and at the very least have them price it out.

There are so many options for buying handles online. TopKnobs, MyKnobs, Knobs4Less, Wayfair, Overstock, Amazon just to name a few. Do not get rushed by ANYONE. This is a huge decision and every part of it takes time. There are long threads on this website JUST about hardware for a reason. Get samples and take your time.

It’s a tad lighter than boulder but darker than stone. They we’re featured on the Property brothers. And it says they price match from anywhere and even beat the price. My total from Lowe’s after discount is 7500 and that’s with the double garbage can, spice rack, under the sink storage, double cutlery drawer, the hardware I picked without being able to see and 4 roll out trays. I’ll attach the design from Lowe’s but it would have a white countertop and overhang

not gray like the designer sent.

I had never heard of Cliqstudio and was concerned that the cabinets might be made in China ( poor quality) since I couldn't find anything on their web-site regarding the construction of the cabinet or for that matter where it is made. You are welcome. As you look at cabinets a few things you should look at is where they are made (stay away from China), the construction, the warranty and then search on Houzz to see if the brand/s you are interested in have any threads and feedback on. If not, then start a new thread asking if anyone has experience with that brand. And are you doing drawers rather than stationary shelving in the cabinets?

I’m doing 3 deep drawers in the island under my double cutlery drawer. Everything else will be standard drawers but 3 of them will have the pull out storage (the 2 in the island for pots and pans) and the one to the right of the stove for like a mini pantry

Not quite understanding but do as many pull out drawers (like your bottom photo) as you can. Nothing gets lost and more useful because you can get to the back easier.

Sorry! I meant all uppers will be standard cabinets and all the lowers will have pull out drawers like the bottom picture except for the 3 deep individual drawers I have on the end of the island. I’m actually going to check out IKEA tomorrow to see what they have! Thanks!

Unrelated topic but does anyone have an Opinion on a water or oil based finish for my hard wood floors?

Both have different positives and negatives. The water base dries a lot faster, so you can do it in a day or two. It doesn’t seem to really sink into the wood, so it doesn’t change the color as much. The oil base saturates the wood and gives it more of a golden hue. It takes a lot longer to dry before you can put on another coat. Some people feel like the tone of the wood is richer with the oil base. Others like the grayer look of the water base. The water base is also more expensive. I’d recommend that you buy two tiny cans of each and test them out either in an area you won’t see and can re-sand or on an extra piece if you have it. The difference made the choice easy for me.

L.roberts what one did you end up picking? The floor guy I’m using is letting me pick either finish with no extra cost. I have extra pieces of wood so I definitely think I’m going to test it out! I’m looking for what makes the color look it’s best plus what will help hide my dogs scratches

From what I read, they are equally as durable. I have 3 dogs, so I can relate to the scratches. I haven’t seen any since I did the floor though. I like the richness that the oil gave the wood, so that’s what I picked. Mine is white oak. It just looked richer, but it’s not too yellowish. If I had a different wood, I might have made a different choice though. Good luck!

There’s a ton of good info in this thread and I’m so happy I came across it! I’m deciding on cabinets too and am trying to decide between J&K cabinets (all wood, made here in Denver, soft close, dovetail) and Highland Cabinetry (same features and also here in Denver). I started off wanting gray but I don’t have a ton of light, and I was afraid it would make everything too dark and drab. I’m going to check out the company mentioned earlier in this post too. As for Cliq studios, I marketed for the countertop company that sold in Costco and the feedback past the design stage wasn’t so great. Feedback on IKEA cabinets was very positive, but the options for sizes they had didn’t work for me, though they had the coolest organization options.

On the wood floor stain question, I had my wood floors refinished last week and went with Minwax Provinical water based with a matte finish. I opted for the matte because it was middle of the road in terms of durability. It was high sheen before and my floor guy mentioned that if I didn’t like that, satin was a good option. It changed my floors entirely! He said he had to sand forever though.. Before, during, and after attached.

This isn’t one of your questions, but I strongly recommend a counter-depth refrigerator. It makes your finished kitchen look so much sleeker.

Jojo funny you mentioned that because I tried buying a counter depth fridge when I bought our new appliances 2 years ago but because the semi wall I have next to the fridge sticks out too far i wasnt able to open the freezer door fully! So we sadly had to exchange it for the one we now have. We’re going to have filler pieces on top and the on the sides to make it more counter depth looking.

CnBellamy I have special walnut right now with a satin finish and it’s just so blah so I’m leaning towards Provinical. I’m just torn on the water or oil based finish. I’m hoping for something that hides dog scratches more bc my 40 pound wheaten likes to run around the house all excited everytime someone comes in. How are you liking Provinical? what Color is it leaning towards?

Hi Baby, In terms of the exact same things you mentioned, my floor refinisher advised lighter than I wanted (Jacobean). I have red oak, and the texture was nearly gone with that option, and he mentioned scratches would be more visible the darker I went.

The guy who did my floors let me put down a couple samples and sanded out the “no”. I’m loving Provincial and the 2 people I’ve let in the house to see the difference complimented it. It pulls a bit brown/gray against agreeable gray and smoked blue by Sherwin Williams, which is great since I wanted to get rid of the orange I had before. I googled a bunch of photos like this one to decide, and then still had to have him put down options before I finally could! As far as the water vs oil based, the oil based sounds like a good choice if you can take the smell (I think increased cost too?). My beloved schnauzer (also havoc on flooring) is gone so I could choose water based without issue, plus I don’t have a lot of light or wear and tear to worry about.

CnBellamy- the floor guy said there’s no extra charge for oil so I have a feeling I’m going to go with that one and just stay at my in-laws for an extra day to avoid the smell. My concern with changing my stain color is that the rest of my house isn’t getting redone. Just the main floor so I’m worried doing another color will look stupid. But I have a bi level house so my 5 stairs heading to my second level is all the way on the other side of the main level where it’s not very noticeable. I’m really only doing the floors because I currently don’t have wood under my island in the kitchen and when we Install the new island it will be in a different spot. i just really don’t love special walnut so I’m hoping I don’t have to pick it again. your floors look beautifu!

I just recently redid my kitchen and got all my Thomasville cabinets from Home Depot (in fact all the cabinets I've had put in the house over the years came from Home Depot). The quality and service have been great. The cabinet installation price is reasonable too. We went with Oat uppers and Slate lowers. I used the longer handles for the really wide drawers and they double as tower bars for my kitchen rowel. The quartz counters came from Home Depot as well and we got the A grade (apparently the cheapest one, but we found one that looks just like marble and has been really great so far). We probably went out of our comfort zone quite a bit, but don't regret anything. The total cost of the cabinets, countertops, and installation (not including the flooring, appliances, or the demolition) ran us just over 26K.

I don't recall the breakdown exactly, but I think it was something like $200 per cabinet. At Home Depot they have special deals going on all the time, so ask them if they have any and if not wait a bit and ask again. We got 20% off when we bought hours and an additional 5% on the countertops. To me, it was totally worth it. The installer worked for a week, measuring everything exactly right, making sure that everything was leveled correctly and he knew things that someone who does not install cabinets for a living wouldn't know. This is a big investment and I would recommend against trying to do it yourselves unless your husband really knows what he's doing. Also, we installed Thomasville cabinets in the hallway, living room and kitchen, and KraftMaid for the bathroom and I would recommend going with Thomasville. The KraftMaid was not anywhere near as nice.

He knows what he’s doing but as he likes to say is extremely lazy 😂. So Ill ask for a quote from them and hopefully the price makes him unlazy! haha

@Eleana, your kitchen is gorgeous! I used Home Depot for a full remodel many years ago and for a complete refacing job three years ago in my current home. The best advice I can give you is to get feedback from LOCAL people about your LOCAL Home Depot. Each one hires different people. But I lucked out twice with them. And yes, they have sales and 0% refinancing deals at times. Definitely check them out. Don’t rush any of this. Doig a kitchen is a huge job with lots of decisions involved.

Just some additional points: instead of getting lower cabs with pull-out drawers I would recommend just deep drawers....saves extra steps. I had nice, deep drawers for pots etc in my last kitchen, but this house came with all cabs with interior pull-outs. I cannot wait to get rid of all of them!

There is no wrong or regret if you love it and are doing it for yourself. If you're doing it to impress others you're still only going to please 3 out of 4 dentists. How can people tell you what is right or wrong for your house and the way you live. Everyone is different. Pick what you love and you won't have regret. Most people don't love the same thing until they die. You might get sick of living with the same thing eventually but that doesn't mean your choice was wrong. I just wish people would stop worrying about what other people like and pick what makes them happy to look at when they see it everyday. You're the one paying for it and living in it. When I say "you" I mean people in general and not specifically baby2534. It just pains me to see people choosing what they think others will like. I always wonder how people who can't decide on a kitchen or paint colour ever got a partner lol. Can you imagine canvassing for that?

Dedgar I’m a really indecisive person which is my WORST quality. i like to weigh all my options, get some opinions because I value other people’s experience, but in the end I always go with my gut and pick what makes me happy. This site is great but I think it’s amazing people take time out of their day to help others.

Soft white cabinets in the perimeter will be timeless and pretty. A light grey glass long subway tile or squares would work or even vertical picket fence. I think your choices were good with the counter too. As someone mentioned, painting is $$$ so later if you fall in love with deep Navy blue you are only updating your island and maybe switching hardware if you're bored with it to another metal.

Ted- I’m pretty sure were going with Shenandoah cabinets from Lowe’s. White on the perimeter and the boulder on the island. I checked all the local places but my husband likes that Lowe’s has the lifetime warranty and we can use the Lowe’s card with no interest for 18 months. I have an appointment this coming Thursday to finalize everything and compare the design to one with diamond cabinets. I was able to view the handles and put them up against our color choices so that was a huge help. thank You for caring! ❤️❤️❤️

I wouldn't put much weight on the lifetime warranty. Believe me, 99.9% of the time any manufacturer will have a loop hole in their warranty that even though the person thinks it should be covered, isn't. That said, a "life time" warranty is better than none! And if you go forth with Lowe's you are doing so knowing that you did your research and homework and you won't second guess your decision as you made the one that was best for you. Keep us posted. Another question for you all.. can anyone recommend a true gray paint that would look great with the white perimeter cabinets and boulder island? I unfortunately have to paint before the cabinets go up because of the soffit. Every gray is looking too blue or purple
