Really can't help much, but I have "free range" Purslane weeds all the time in my garden. If it is fertile and moist, they grow more lush and bushy. If dry or sparse soil they grow like a succulent hugging the ground.

Are you sure that you don't have "weeds" growing around what you intentionally planted? I don't know if Purslane is a common weed in warm climates.

Domestic and wild purslane are two somewhat different but closely related plants. The domestic is much heavier. The wild shows up and can be very thick but has much smaller leaves and more generally hugs the ground. The top image and the third one are wild. The second and the fourth are what you planted. Both are edible and essentially interchangeable except for the size difference. This plant generally does not show up in my garden until summer temperatures finally come on.

Purslane is one of the more persistent weeds in my garden. Some years (like this one) the population is heavy. Although they are all wild, I've observed that there appear to be two different strains; the thick-stemmed strain has larger leaves, and closely resembles the more vertically oriented plants in the photos above.

All purslane is edible, as are many of our weeds... but "edible" does not necessarily mean "palatable". Tastes vary, but to me, this is only SHTF food.
