Hello. I am hoping someone could comment on the issue we are having with our new (relatively) kitchen. We had our kitchen renovated last year (completed in December 2019). Within a month, we noticed some chips on the ridge of our cutlery drawer fronts - near the handles. After first I had no idea what was causing it, but the kitchen company came back and did some touch ups for us. Over the next few months, it started happening again, and we figured our that our young daughters were most likely nicking the section with their nail as they open the drawer. One thing I noticed is that the design of the 2 cutlery drawers (on both sides of our oven range) are a different design than the rest of the doors (including the similar cutlery drawer in the island). The problem drawer is a Markham MDF Painted White. You will see the chips under the right handle. Also notice the different profile (opposite to the lower drawers, as well as the Athens below)

COVID hit, so we basically held off talking to the kitchen company about it until this past fall. Due to the backlog of work they had, they were not able to come out until earlier last month.

I wanted to get some feedback as I am not sure how to proceed based on their replies to me.

I had asked if the reason why we are getting so many chips in the cutlery drawers is due to the different profile (the little lip immediately below the handle), and perhaps we could switch them to the same profile as the others.

The reply back was: the rail width on the Markham doors is considerably wider than the Athens door, which is why they are more easily able to reduce the rails and still get a raised center panel and a decent width rail on the top and bottom. Due to this, the reduced rails, would most likely not look great:

The customer service rep also mentioned that others that have had this problem just learned to live with it, comparing it to scratches you see on car door handles over time. I understand what she is saying, but having little paint chips coming off twice in the first year of a kitchen seems like a bit much. I can only imagine what it would look like in 10 years time.

Would anyone have any advice on what to do here? Should we just opt to have them supply with paint, and do touchups as needed? Is there an option for other style drawer fronts that could match the existing doors?
