Thyme takes forever to dry.

I keep coming across instructional articles suggesting that thyme should dry in 4-6 hours in a food dehydrator at ~110°F. In my experience, it takes between 12-24 hours at that same temperature. I am using a Hamilton Beach model with fan and thermostat control. The fan seems to be functioning correctly and the temperature is accurate. I am drying the thyme on the branches, as removing the leaves while green is arduous.
Has anyone here had the same issue? I live in Kansas, so humidity is likely a factor, but I wouldn't have expected the influence to be so dramatic. I am concerned with over-drying and losing flavor by leaving it so long, but I also want to ensure it is dried completely. Any tips would be appreciated!
