How to layout living, dining, play/ sitting area?

We moved in a year ago and I still haven’t arranged this house. I’m not interior design inclined so I experienced paralysis of analysis and have done nothing. I’m not committed to the furniture but we like mid-century/ traditional, as I’m open to different shapes if it will make the space make more sense. I would like to have a dining, living, and play/ sitting area. Possibly have a small desk somewhere so I’m not using the siding table. Down the road we would like to open the wall between the now living and kitchen area but for now I need to have a space that makes sense with a child who will be mobile soon. I’m open to any possibility and ready to get creative.

My first thought is a child does not have to have every toy at their fingertips all the time so start with things that can be put away at the end of the day and a cabinet for the toys that need to be handy Use that cabinet to also hang the TV above . Post a to scale floor plan of that whole area showing windows doorways and all measurements clearly marked I need to understand the use of the space as shown and that cowhide rug will need to go since it is not the right size or shaper for that table .

Thank you! First I’d like to establish which room should be what. Then I’d love to expand on particular layout, decor, rugs, storage. I agree and think that the toys should be put away at the end of the day. Not sure if I should swap dining and living area then great a small sitting space near the back door or windows so adults can relax/ supervise child play?

Where is the kitchen in relation to these two spaces?

The kitchen is on the other side of the wall the TV is against. In the future we’d like to open up that wall when we remodel the kitchen.

You have a lot of great space. I would use the front room (with the front door and table) for a combination desk area and second seating area. Four armchairs grouped around a round coffee table would leave you plenty of room for a desk and an entry table near the door. Then the back room with the sliders can be used for your tv family room, dining table, and play space. I would put the dining table next to the fireplace so it is directly across from the kitchen door, and move the seating area over by the windows. You should still have room for a smaller playspace by the windows as well. You can keep the tv on the same wall with the furniture closer to the sliders, or move the tv to the brick wall and use the corner by the windows to float the sectional. The very first thing I'd do in your home though is add recessed lighting to all the ceilings.

I would shift the sectional so that back of it is facing what I think is the play area with the rug. And then move the tv to the wall opposite of its current location if possible. It's such a nice big, space and it's great that you're using it for multiple purposes. I think by separating the two areas of the room with the sectional, it will actually help the room appear bigger and more sensible, with each area clearly designated in its side of the room. I would also get a rectangular dining table, that would look much better than the circular table. I would also get larger rugs for each area of the house. Rugs are another great space designator tool. Everyone's always so afraid of getting a large rug but trust me it will be such an improvement and help bring everything together.
