Considering Miele for the first time

I need a new washer and dryer and can't make sense of all the features not only from the last 10+ years but the ones on the Miele. Currently have 2010 FL LG. My dislikes are the pulsing of water with the noise(have arrestors and pipe insulation on the water hoses), no ability to adjust add hot water or more water, and the big one, the machines are so big particularly in depth. I do use the pedestals as I have rods/screws limiting my back movement.

I was looking at the LG 4000 as I think with the download programs I can get more water and hotter water, not sure of the cycle limits, it's vague in the manual. And now having measured they are even deeper than what I currently have.

I also saw online the LG WM1455HWA which is smaller like the Miele but can't find out mch about it.

Which brings me to the Miele. I am looking at the W1's. This washer will be just for me and an occasional guest so I am not worried about day to day size. Some features I see that look good to have are:

Internal heater

Recirculating pump

Express cycles for wash

Intense cycle

Interior drum lighting

Spin only-do I need this?

Spin and rinse

Steam?

Adjust water levels, number of rinses, temp of water, spin speed,

Soak cycle

Quick wash

I do wash on delicate quite often to save wear and tear on fabrics. I also wash sport clothes, and the typical household items, dog bed covers etc. I generally use cold water, using Hot for towels. I am super careful about the amount of detergant I use, leave the drawer and front open all the way, and wipe the machine after use and so far so good, with a Tub Clean every so often. Currently in August my tap water is about 87 degrees but can barely get HOT even when set on HOT as the machine cycles in the cold on and off, my water heater is set way up, it's just the machines that dumb down the HOT.

and I have no idea how downloading programs and settings work, can I set and then recall if I use it all the time. This is worse than buying new glasses.

I am in Houston and intend to go see in person. I would like to hear feedback on the features, if they are useful or just bells and whistles. Also if there are comments on service that would be helpful. this will probably be my last machine. I will use a credit card to extend the warranty and may buy extended also if you all advise.

Thanks so much for weighing in. I read as many posts on Meile laundry machines, even the long.... ones, and maybe absorbed a bit more with each read.

Miele uses its internal heater to guarantee the water temp. doesnt marter if its hot fill or cold. Cycle will be shorter with hot water fill available.

Everything you are asking for is present on the Miele. If you get a TwinDos model then you dont need to worry about measuring detergent either.

Comparing Miele to LG is not a fair comparison. Miele is a premium appliance and LG is not.

How does downloading or modifiying programs work. Exactly what can you do? I realize these are premium appliances, but what can I do that makes them better? Does extra programing do that?

There is no downloading of programs on the residential appliances. That is reserved for the commercial/professional line and the extra programs are sold in packs. They are designed for specialized loads though and would almost never be used at home. Programs for hospital laundry, soiled linen (blood, stool, etc), horse blankets).

Miele has numerous extra programs, better build quality, detergent and oxygen bleach dispensing, specially designed internal drum to reduce wear on clothes, water temperature control using an internal heater, water recirculation pump, stainless steel inner and outer drum, etc,

While none of these features are exclusive to Miele, miele tends to do a good job of implementing them all in their upper level washers.

Most people who buy Miele are happy, even though they are expensive. It is like buying a bmw or an Audi. Their premium vehicles. Do you NEED one to get around, no. Do you appreciate the quality and through that goes into the design? Are you willing/able to pay for it?

Most people who buy a Miele will have a very hard time going to something else in the future. No kther manufacturer seems to put as much into one appliance and do it well. Is Mirle perfect? Nope. The phone app in its current form is terrible. There was a problem with pre-wash on some recent models not moving to the main wash. It is irritating to some people, for others it is no problem.

Until you use one for a while it is going to be hard to assure you it was a good decision. The old adage ”you get what you pay for” and ”you dont know what your missing” apply here.
