Blueberries are rather stick like looking plants (often leggy with sparse foliage) even when the deer don't eat them. They also take a good three years to fully establish and begin to grow enough to minimize the stick look. I would not recommend them for a high visibility front door entry area. They are a fine plant for fall color and light snacking further out in the garden.

You want to grow blueberries and want deer friendly? Do you mean friendly as in more attractive than blueberries so they leave those alone, or friendly repellent to keep them away from your blueberries?

My blueberries are attractive plants. I don't know the varieties, but my focus was on Maine, not GA. There have been a bunch of breeders breeding for looks in a home landscape, not just commercial yield. Top Hat, Pink Lemonade are among them, I think.

The idea of ornamental Blueberry shrubs did pop into my head for a second. I have seen one variety and it had major potential for a nice shrub with white and pink summer foliage, but they did not like where they were planted and never did well. I don't recall the fall color. Worth looking into.

I have used blueberries in ornamental landscape designs many times. Most varieties will develop excellent fall color. Driving by a local blueberry farm at this time of year is breath taking! But I would not include them as a significant focal point or specimen planting as they do not have great year round appeal. Back yard - great: front yard - not so much. 'Top Hat' is known for developing intense fall color.
