It's lovely, but missing undercab lighting. Before you have a backsplash installed, have the wiring and lighting done. It'll make a huge difference.

I'd replace that chandelier with pendants over the island and some additional can lighting.

I notice you need to install a hood above the island cooktop. Love the doggies!

Most kitchen's seen here are minimalist on trim/architectural detail etc. It's nice to see a more formal interest added profile on your cabinets and island.

I appreciate the perspectives. Color is currently just trinkets to see what looks best. My spouse is appreciating the mint/teal green (?). I've enjoyed the cut flowers in large vases on each island, still torn on yellow and white vs kaleidoscope arrangements. Its a huge change for us, from Cherry stain to White with the Black Glaze and the Matte Black Islands. I appreciate the edge and corner details in the panels and frames, those features allowed the Glaze Finish to add the depth or character that would be missed if the features weren't there. We have one Red Leather Chair, LOL. Believe it or not, the handles were the biggest dilemma, size wise.

Lighting, argh ! I have some ready to install, just waiting on some helpers, my Twins, to help me out, i don't want to stand on the counters.

Interesting about the Range hood, That's been a debate between my spouse and I. I do all the cooking and I am refuting the need for the range hood over the cooktop; I prefer the open space. She's insisting its needed to meet building codes and maybe she just wants to prove me wrong, in good spirit.

Backsplash, to be or not be? I'm currently not to excited to add one as I'm liking the flexibility or non-permanence of the color.

I would definitely want the range hood. I dont know about code in your area, but, hoods are necessary in my world.

I find the drywall backsplash very distracting. It looks unfinished and budget. A simple subway tile that picks up one of the colors in your countertop would be ideal.

The light fixture over the island doesn’t work.

And I would paint the existing stained crown moulding, as well as the rest of the trim (doors, windows, etc.).

Other than that, what an amazing transformation!

Thanks for the compliments and insight. Going to start looking for something to use as a backsplash. And change out the lights. Range hood is still an ongoing debate. I may add a down draft. I appreciate someone seen the detail in the wood work edges. Changing all wood work to white washed isn't likely. I kind'a like the mixed woodwork. Added some teal stools at the counter. I really struggled to get the two islands, no one wanted to do it and most all said i didn't have enough room, that was bs. Additionally, I went to a actually stone distributor for the counter top, wholly cow, take samples of you finishes to match up to the natural stone. We wound up with a stone color we never thought to ask about. Secondly, stone quality... you get what you pay for, these are flawless and crackle free. The Quartz, In our opinion, just didn't look natural, neither did quartzite. Thank heavens for the Plumber, great guy put in 15 hour day. The electricians, likewise. thought electrical was only about 8 hours of work, it took three days and I was happy they came and did it. Sleeping peacefully about the utilities is worth the time and money. Loved doing this project. Looking forward to the upstairs after a short break.

After I mentioned to you earlier about the missing hood, I decided I better go check on mine as it had been a while since I cleaned it. Maybe 6 months or so. OMG, the 2 removable mesh filters were super sticky with grease and dirt (and with a few dead knats stuck in it). Gross!!! Even the sides of the two flanking upper cabinets were totally greasified! I removed the filters to soak them in hot soapy water. I then had to wash my hands about 4-5 times with dish soap and I am not kidding my fingers still felt sticky. Please bear with my long story here. Haha!

I have an expensive powerful Zepher hood that I thoroughly researched on gardenweb (now houzz 😢) for a good recommendation. I turn it on to at least medium high everytime I use the stove, even for just boiling water. I will disclose my hubby cooks too and he love, love LOVES to fry everything! I make sure he turns it full blast when he does.

Ok, getting to the point already. So now imagine you have no hood, and you actually use your cooktop fairly often. Over time, where do you think all that grease that I just described is going to go? Remember that is WITH most of mine being sucked up and out by my powerful hood. Yep, in no time, those new pendant lights, the ceiling, vases, trinkets, everything within a certain distance will get a nice sticky film of grease. You might not see it until the dirt and maybe a bug or two gets stuck to it. Don’t get me started on the cooking smells eventually stinking up the curtains and furniture or the annoying smoke detectors going off. I guess a downdraft would be better then nothing, but from what I have read by the pros here, not all that much better. So my advice is to listen to your wife and get the hood. They have nice looking ones that have good task lighting in them. Ok, sorry for the rant. 🤐

Now as far as the backsplash, I really love the color paint you have there now. I think a tile in that color would look beautiful. I have a similar greyish green color backsplash. It really functions like a neutral. I can use any pop of color, even red, and it goes great. Mine is by jeffery court, breakwater, sea color. It is a close match to the BM paint color Sea Salt.

rebunky, you are right on the grease "atomizing" and settling on everything. It is a sticky mess. I'm likely resisting as I am glad to be able to cook and not be stuck facing the wall. It is so nice to be able to cook for people and interact with them face to face instead of back to them. Thus far, I've basically cooked anything smoky or fried in the outdoor "Kitchen". I definately will insist on a power vent to the exterior, so that has been an issue, sorta like the lighting. I hate drywall repair, it takes me forever due to my ADD?ADHD/Squirrel.

Squirrel haha! You sound like my husband. He’s a GC and he has no patience for detailed finish work. I’m actually on my second coat of mud on a sheetrock repair right now in my house where we removed an old wall a/c.
