Please Help!! Bad patching job?

We recently replaced our windows. They were smaller than the original ones, so we had to reframe and fill the gaps. It looks like our contractor patched somewhat, and the “painter” is supposed to spackle more and paint.
To me, it looks like some of the areas are really bumpy and there are gaps between the molding and walls. It doesn’t look like he used Sheetrock to fill which naturally would have been very smooth.

We have had SO many issues with the greater renovation, that we have very little confidence in general. And I’m not feeling very confident that the painter is going to be able to smooth out those bumps and fill the gaps. The areas were perfectly smooth before the windows were put in but we have other bad patch jobs in the house (we bought less than 2 years ago, and lots of examples of poor jobs), so I am concerned that we are faced with another problem.

I’ve raised this with our contractor multiple times already, but he says it’s fine and will be addressed when comes time to paint.

Does this scream problem / red flags?
Should we insist that he address sooner and not leave to someone else to further try to smooth and paint?

I’ve included a picture before filling the gap to show how much space was filled. Plus multiple pictures of bumpy areas and space between the wall and molding.
