And checking the washing machine filter can also yield surprises. After moving into current home, we found a few golf tees, a sock, some spare change and a bullet (nope, not a shell) in the filter. Is there any wonder why that machine pooped out a few months later?!

Without knowing what model she has, my hunch is that her loads are overstuffed. Some items get caught in there, but to find bulkier socks and have it go unnoticed is kinda weird.

I did not realize how common this was. I never had it happen to me when I was using FLs. My SIL has had FLs for at least 20 years, if not longer. I'll have to find out from my brother if they have been missing socks for years. Some of the examples of what has been found upthread was fascinating-not the least a bullet!

@armjim I've had different brands of FL over the last 16 years....LG, Whirlpool, Samsung and recently Maytag. This is the first time it's happened to me.

A frontloader (2006 WP Duet) I repaired/refurbished in Nov 2012 for a neighbor who got it and the matching dryer used (from a fellow who runs an insurance agency) for placement in one of his rental property which requires a stacked set had these items in the pump trap: a tampon applicator, candy wrappers, coins, screws, nails, shot pellets, and hair pins with bunches of lint caught on the whole mess which reeked like a sewer. Also a camera memory card stuck in the tub outlet hose.

When we had FLers, socks would get stuck in the gasket often. Also detergent pods would always throw themselves right into the gasket after about the 3rd turn of the drum no matter where we placed the durn pod! Golf tees and coins too. One time MY credit card. I finally found it haha!

This has never happened to me but I do pull my gasket back and dry it but still never found any items in there. I have found my husbands fit bit in the drum portion several times.

Yes. Our Duet would have a small sock in the boot maybe once a month. It was far more likely to happen with big loads.

I have an Electrolux WaveTouch (70 series) and NEVER had anything get stuck in the door gasket.

I don't think things "get stuck" there - but they are thrown there due to centrifugal force. Totally different.

We sometimes have had the occasional quarter-crew-sock land *on* the gasket and stay there, but never stuck in between the folds of the gasket, as shown in the OP.

Our Miele ate my husband’s credit card. i thought he was crazy. We emptied the filter several times and nothing. well well, 8 years later, I emptied it for some reason. Yup, found pieces of his credit card. We occassionaly find a sock in the gasket, but we check and wipe it dry after each load, so not a collection. Miele does say to put little things towards the back.

@a2gemini, a credit card is typically too large to pass intact to the pump filter. More likely it'll get stuck in the tub outlet hose that leads into the pump sump ... unless/until it somehow eventually breaks into small-enough pieces to pass.
