Take one lamp away and have a floor lamp. Take the wood side chair away. I would try taking the table in front of the window away and putting the one next to the couch there, lower than the window. take all small things off table on put one or two larger art pieces. A large floor plant in the corner. Try a rug with beiges and blues and reds.

A lot of people are giving up their houses and moving into assisted living facilities and letting go of perfectly serviceable furniture.

Can you please look for a good serviceable sofa and buy a slip cover in white or off-white, whatever color works for you and put it either where your current loveseat.

Please move your loveseat to the basement or your bedroom, or somewhere else.

Two adults people do not want to sit together on a loveseat, it is too close for comfort.

Please take a better lit photo of the living room showing the window and those chairs.

That table is entirely too high which creates 2 problems:

1. It creates a barrier between the chairs creating an impediment to conversation between the two people, rather than facilitating conversation

2. The table next to the chairs in a living room is supposed to allow for the individual to place his drink, etc on the table. The table is supposed to be no higher than the arm of the chair because it is awkward and uncomfortable to have to lift your arm up and sideways.

So please get a side table that is the proper height to go between those two chairs.

How much light do you get from the can lights in your ceiling?

If you really do not get enough and you need light to read when you sit in the chairs in front of the windows, then get a floor lamp.

If you don't sit and read in those chairs, but sit on the couch to read, don't get the floor lamp.

It is entirely possible that the can lights directly overhead of those chairs provide sufficient light for whoever is sitting on those chairs.

I think the room would be vastly improved by an area rug on top of your wall-to wall carpeting and you can pick up a decent Persian carpet also from someone retiring.

A Kashan would be a good bet for you because they have blues and reds and go well in a traditional decor.

And yes, you do need a pad when you put a Persian over a wall to wall, get the correct one from a rug dealer who specializes in Persian carpets.

Four chairs is a lot in that room besides a sofa.

If you need a hard backed wood chair for guests that are more comfortable in a chair like that, that is perfectly fine, but you can bring in one of the chairs from the dining room.

The room doesn't seem large enough for all of the chairs you have in there now. I would remove the green chair.

I can't see your art close up. Is it really something special? Is is hand-painted?

If it is really something special, please have it re-framed so as to give it more importance.

as is, it doesn't look like anything special. I would also enlarge the outer mat, and perhaps not use a dark green either. I don't know that the dark green really enhances the work either.

Your room would also benefit by having something on the wall on either side of the art as well.

You can buy some sort of bracket or small shelf and put on it some interesting attractive object.

As it is now, you have a wide expanse of wall on either side of the art piece.

Once you decide on your area rug, then you can change your throw pillow covers.

The once you have on your love seat now are underwhelming.

Once you get your sofa, you might want to get either a coffee table or a large ottoman with a tray on it.

Your room could really use a sofa & a round coffee table.

The art over the sofa IMO is too small for the room.

At first glance - too much furniture. Everything except for the drapes is a solid bland color. I can't see the colors clearly in the drapes, but you need to use the pink/coral/? in other places in the room. The blue in the art is vibrant and you added the plant pot but again it doesn't relate to anything else. All your lamps are at one end of the room. They also look very tall. The table in front of the windows is too tall it is more of a hall table.

Using the items, you have I would move the 2-seater in front of the windows with a table and lamp at each end. The 2 chairs on the wall with the art with a table in between. Leave wing chair as is and remove the tall table, clock and armchair. The use the most vibrant color from the drapes 2 other places in the room i.e., a throw on the 2-seater, a planter, a vase, a pillow on the wing chair.

Before buying anything new play around with the layout with the items you have to see what arrangement works best for you

It looks to me like you have very comfortable seating for 4 - 5 in this room; and possibly for 6, if 2 people share the settee. So I don’t really think you need to alter the furniture. And from my perspective (as well as from an Eastern Feng Shui perspective) from what I can see, your furniture placement also appears to be excellent; all well-sized, well-placed, and arranged in a nice conversation grouping.

In many cases, a couple of small tweaks can dramatically change the whole look and feel of a space. A total overhaul is very often just not necessary.

Add a colorful area rug over the carpet in your seating area. PIck up some of the colors from your window treatments for both the rug and for throw pillows on your seating. You also need some texture in that space. Find a live edge wood or rattan coffee table, for example.

Table tops should be 1" above or below the arms of seats. Then a lamp on top should come to 58-64" above the floor. Your round table is a big improvement; what can be done about the ones at the sofa? If shopping for a new sofa, and using the same tables, you might measure their heights and take those with you to double check sofa arm height. If looking for new lamps, they too should match the visual heft or airiness of your tables; chunky lamps for chunky tables and slender ones for skinny, open based tables. Have you tried the clock in the dining room between the smaller art pieces? I don't think it is getting the focus it requires squeezed in between the door and drapes. Remove the wood chair and needlepoint stool to another room. A 3-seat sofa will be much better in your space, as will a more feminine footstool if you really need one.. New lumbar pillows in the chairs will be a spot for some color from the art.

you need, paint them the same color as your other trim and put the top of them at the same height as your chair rail, then choose a color from your drapes that you like and paint that color on the wall inside the picture frame moulding. Grab some throw pillows in the same color, then choose a second color for two or three pilows, a vase, or a throw. Your living room will be loved in no time!
