Something seems “off” where you’ve placed the bench, perhaps further back nearer the porch & facing the other direction.

I hadn’t considered that, but maybe I should! It’s facing the driveway so I can watch the kids play while I hold baby! ☺️ and it’s the only spot where nothing seems to grow no matter what I plant there!

Dig Doug's design is fantastic. Yes, create a little patio--stone or gravel for the bench now that you explained why you would face the driveway and frame it with shrubs and perennials.
