A question for landscape contractors

Let me start off by saying I live in Georgia and I have retained a lawyer who is confident that we will win our case. So here is the back story that will lead to my question. I hired a friend to do some landscaping, I repeatedly asked him for a contract so there would be no misunderstanding. He completes the job, still no contract, and sends me a bill. More back story, I paid him $6,700 upfront as he issues a bill for 14K with what he calls a reduced amount of 10K. All materials, I paid for from new bushes to flowers, to the bobcat each week, to the containers that were used for vegetation that we removed, So my lawyer communicated with him in writing this guy gives an example of an hourly bobcat driver making $150 per hour! Seriously you read that right and he billed me for that and I rented the bobcat for two months.

So the question is this, has anyone ever heard of a bobcat driver making $150 per hour to clear a backyard of fallen limbs and trees?
