The style of the front door and the closet doors are inconsistent with MCM. They may have been replaced at some point. The original doors were probably flat - no panels. The new front door you've chosen isn't MCM. The floor is probably original as it is identical to the one in the '60's house I grew up in. I'm not sure which direction you want to go in. How have you decorated the rest of the house? You have an opportunity to change the doors and return it to its MCM roots. Since MCM is all the rage now that doesn't conflict with "modernizing" it, but you said you want to bring it out of the '60's. If you want to go in the direction of transitional style you shouldn't do a horizontal railing and you should change the flooring.

Thanks for the comment - we like elements of MCM but not full blown... so I suppose that's transitional? The previous owners went the more traditional route - house used to have white trim and black shutters. We tried to find a door to tie in with the bay window in the front. The rest of the house's design feels like a mix of traditional and MCM. Replacing the floor sounds like a huge undertaking and were trying to make some other changes to improve the look before going that route.

if it were mine, I'd try a peel & stick wall paper... Birch Lane and Wayfair have some great MCM wallpapers. Sometimes you just have to try something different.

The house to me seems very colonial revival. the doors and floor are definately original like mine. I agree with the above - which way do you want to go? if transitional then use a similar classic style of colonial door and railing and just update them - they are appropriate to the style of the house.
