Range electrical wiring

I’m remodeling and moving my range about 10 feet across the room. The range is calls for 40A and has been running in a 40A circuit wired with 8/3 wire for years with no issue.

Given I’m moving it, I need to extend splice in about 15feet of additional 8/3 wire. I have plenty of access in the basement within a drop ceiling to do this.

However, I’m thrown by the existing wire. It is clearly original to my 1958 home and reads “AIG 8/3 NM 600V.” And it’s a beast! Meaning, the wire seems huge in comparison to modern wires (photo attached below for size comparison).

Is there any major issue extending this 8/3 wire with a section of modern 8/3? Alternative is to run a new cable all the way to the breaker box, but honestly I don’t have great access to do that.

Thanks for any insights.
