Don’t the flowers belong to the vine growing with it?

Malosma laurina should have deep red petioles, central veins, leaf edges and stems year round. The red coloration is one of the indicators of the species.

Oops, floral_uk was right...those are actually flower spikes from a separate vine around it (I think Carolina Snailseed). So, I don't think it is Malosma laurina (Laurel Sumac).

Jordan - Yes, I think that's actually what it has to be! Large, alternate leaves like these...what else could it be? The only confusing thing is its multistemmed, bushy habit in a thicket. But, I wonder if that could be due to constantly resprouting after getting weed whacked down?

I have found another one before in a nearby alley, too.

So, maybe these are all just a few remaining, wild ones that survived urbanization?

^ Well, but I think it would actually be great if they let them grow up into mature trees! Cuz it's one of my fav natives!

I could try to transplant a few away...but I think it'd be really tough to dig any of those up at that size. And not sure if they would even survive the transplant shock?

How about try growing a cutting or watching for seeds.
